Default BEATER WAR!

Let's face it, many of us wont shell out thousands for a psa 8 when we can get the same card raw, with creases and rounded corners for 1/10 that. Collecting low grade can be alot of fun too. Many people on the board claim to have the crappiest conditioned cards out there. I mean some real hooey. I want to see who's for real.

Post scans of your worst beater(s). The cards must have at LEAST one catastrophic flaw to qualify for the thread. Heavy creasing, writing, and paper loss are a premium. Let's see who the REAL king of the beaters is

My 2 worst beaters just happen to be the exact same card.

Mine are bad, but who owns a better one????

Leon, your card qualifies. At first glance, you might think no, on account of that nice undisturbed image of Faber. But then you notice that the left 1/4 of the card is chewed away, and he's a shoo in.

Jeff Sackmann, this thread beckons you where are you?

Looking at them is great!

But trying to grade them is fun too.

On a beater scale, Id rate Jay's Willis a 10, Brett's Barry a 9.

Who has the 1?

the sad thing is, is that my beaters are my best shape cards except for a few others that would grade atleast 2 lol.

Slim may have been stabbed, burned and then drowned, but I'm pretty sure that there is "none graded higher."

The nice thing about beaters is they are so distinctive. I recognize at least three cards people have posted in this thread that I have owned previously. You just can't forget some creases/tears/holes. Here's my E253 Dave Bancroft.

I fully realize I am an uber nerd for having all my low grade T206 collection graded by SGC, but for uniformity's sake, I like the way they look in SGC slabs!

(at least the Willis has a Cycle 460 back)

Oh Lordy Bryan. You win by a mile with that one. Too bad there wasn't some kind of prize set out at the beginning - like a GAI 1.5 card or something to the winner. I'd have contributed!

The Cobb is a real piece of work. I wish I knew what happened to it. It had a Polar Bear back with no paper loss (so to speak.) So it wasn't ripped up during a scrapbook removal.

Do you think if I carefully remove the pencil mark on the Harper and send it in it could bump the grade up?

Scott,

Ive got good news and bad news for you. The good news is that I would never consider you an uber nerd for slabbing your beaters - in fact, I think the slabbing dramatically improves the look of even the worse beaters. The bad news is, by slabbing them you have automatically taken yourself out of the running for winning the beater war.

No offense but Jerry can not win, those scans aren't of his cards. I can post cards that are just as bad that I don't own too. I think Bryan wins with his Cobb. Also the e90-1 Plank posted earlier would come in second imo.

My Cobb looks like a GEM in this lot, but I love 'em all more than any Mint cards I'll never have. Now if I wasn't restricted to prewar only, I could show you some real beauties.
