Default Diamond Matchbook Question

Posted By: Andy Cook

I have some Diamond Matchbooks of Cubs that were clearly issued in 1937 since they all reference the 1936 statistics. My SCD says there was a matchbook series issued dedicated to the Cubs in 1936, but there's no listing for one in 1937. Is the SCD wrong and the Cubs team should've been 1937? Anyone shed light?
Thanks, Andy

Default Diamond Matchbook Question

Good question, Andy. Could you please post scans? Who are the players? Depending on the answer, we may need to adjust our write-up about Diamond Matchbooks on the Old Cardboard website (see http://www.oldcardboard.com/o/u/u.asp?cardsetID=1084).

Default Diamond Matchbook Question

Posted By: fkw

I just checked my site and I have the Cubs subset (U3-2) as 1937. I dont know where or why I have that info. I usually use the dates the SCD Catalog uses. I went and checked every SCD back to 2001 and they all have the set listed as 1936. Somewhere in the last 3 years I changed it to 1937 but I cant remember why. Oh well I have them as 1937 as well.

This 1937 U3-2 Dizzy Dean is actually part of the Cubs subset. There are 2 nonCubs in the set of 23, Dean and P.Waner.

It says on back "Dizzy's record for the '36 campaign was 24 won against 13 lost." which proves it would be from after the 1936 season was over.

I just checked all of mine and I have a 1937 issue as well...Clyde Shoun which states that he joined the Cubs near the end of the 1936 campaign.
