Default Sov 150/350 as well?

Great stuff, Ted.

I believe you've previously published a bunch from the 150/350 Series to make up to 120 no-prints, yes? An oversight in your original post?

Thanks for the tireless work!

Default Mike F.

I think you are referring to the list I generated several years back, when I had completed my Sovereign set, and
was considering doing a "master" set.

If I recall correctly, approx. 90 of the 151 subjects in the 150 series were also printed with "350 Subjects" backs.
Therefore, 60 (or so) cards are "350" No-Prints in the 150/350 series.

I will search for this list and post it in this thread.

Thanks very much for asking about these No-Prints.

Default Regarding the SOVEREIGN "apple green" back phenomena

Here goes as succinctly as I can, so stay with me. Why American Litho. printed a series of 66 cards in their SOVEREIGN issue with this "apple green" ink
is a mystery. What is not a mystery is why these 66 subjects were selected.

Now, 100 years later, this subtle change in green color reveals to us that American Litho. selected these 66 subjects from the 183 Major Leaguers in the
350 series to continue printing them with 460 series backs (possibly due to the popularity of these ballplayers). Furthermore, the fact that the Sovereign
backs on these cards are not identified as "350-460 Subjects" (as Piedmont and Sweet Caporal backs are) suggests to us that this was done in the initial
planning stage of their 350/460 series cards (circa Summer 1910).

Some of the HOFer's in this series..................................

......350 Series common............................\/........................................Some more HOFer's in this series........................................\/

[linked image]

FURTHERMORE..........

Three of these cards (Joe Doyle, Simon Nicholls, and Bob Rhoades) were never printed with 460 backs since their Major League careers ended prior to the
460 series press runs. Red Kleinow (NY) and Frank Smith (Chicago) were not printed as 350/460 cards since they were in transition [both being traded to
Boston (AL) prior to 460 printing]. Supporting evidence of this theory is that these 5 subjects do not exist with the AB 350 (frame) back. Which of course,
if they did, would contradict this entire premise....since the AB 350 (frame) back is strictly found with 350-only cards.

Subsequently, these exact cards of Red Kleinow and Frank Smith were printed with a variety of 460 series backs with their captions reflecting their trades
to Boston . However, the "Boston" versions of Kleinow and Smith were not printed with SOVEREIGN 460 backs.

I'm sure that some of you may have questions. Feel free to ask them, if I have not clearly explained this phenomena to you. Or, if you want to know
more details regarding these cards.

Credit goes to Art Martineau & Jim Rivera for first pointing out this color difference to this forum in 2009.
In 2007, I had completed an all-SOVEREIGN set. This enabled me (in 2009) to correlate the cards with the apple-green backs to the 350/460 series
subjects in the T206 set and arrive at this theory.

Ted,

With regard to the Sov 150 no-prints, I can understand why there's no Magie, Plank, or Wagner. And Lundgren's move from the Cubs to KC can account for that no-print. But what's going on with Jennings Portrait? I thought he was in the 150-350 group, but I notice that he's not been confirmed (at least in my notes) with any of the Sweet Cap 150 backs either. Is he another "exception"?

Thanks again and Best Regards,
Craig

In the first series (150 Subjects), the Jennings (portrait) card was printed only with a PIEDMONT 150 back,
and a Brown HINDU back.
I cannot explain why ALC did not print Jennings with a SOVEREIGN 150, or SWEET CAPORAL 150.

Jennings exists with a SOVEREIGN 350 back.

Good question.

Ted,

By way of clarification, Jennings (Portrait) is available with Sovereign 350, correct? In other words, Jennings (Portrait) is the lone SOVEREIGN 350-ONLY subject in the 150/350 subject group.

Jennings (portrait) is certainly available with a SOVEREIGN 350 back.

Now, is he is the lone "350-only" subject in the 150/350 series in this set.

Well, I'm not sure, as I've had a hard time finding Wiltse (portrait-no cap) with a SOVEREIGN 150 back.

Best regards,

My reply to Scot a year ago......

" Now, is he is the lone 350-only subject in the 150/350 series in this set ? "

" Well, I'm not sure, as I've had a hard time finding Wiltse (portrait-no cap) with a SOVEREIGN 150 back. "

Scot

After 4 years of searching, I finally acquired Wiltse with a SOVEREIGN 150 back. Therefore, all 151 cards in the 1st series of my set have the SOVEREIGN 150 backs.

And, a big thanks to Rob A. (caramelcard)....who recently provided me this Wiltse card.

Default FYI....T206 SOVEREIGN set confirmed lists....UPDATED

This is the 3rd of 15 threads that will provide the most up to date lists of the confirmed cards with the various T206 backs.

OK folks....here is a major T206 sub-set consisting of 402 different cards that you can COMPLETE. It is quite affordable, and
all 402 cards are not too tough to find.

There are 122 subjects (from a full 524-card T206 set) that were not printed for the SOVEREIGN set. These NO-PRINTS are
identified in their respective series breakdown as follows.

.

150 SERIES......consists of 150 cards with the "150 Subjects" back......the NO-PRINTS are:

Crawford (throwing) ...... Note: this Crawford is found with a SOVEREIGN 350 back only.
Jennings (portrait) ........ Note: this Jennings is found with a SOVEREIGN 350 back only.
Lundgren (Cubs)
Magie
Plank
Honus Wagner

350 SERIES......consists of 204 cards......the NO-PRINTS are:

Abstein
Adkins
Arrellanes
Barbeau
Barger
Becker
Bliss
Brashear
Bresnahan (bat)
Burchell
Charles
Clark
Clymer
Collins (Minn.)
Cross
Davidson
Delehanty (Louisville)
Demmitt (New York American)
Dessau
Dorner

Downey (fielding)
J. Doyle (N.Y. Nat'L)
Elberfeld (portrait-Washington)
Engle
Evans
Fletcher
Freeman
Ganzel
Graham (St Louis AL)
Gray
Groom
Hayden
Hoffman (St Louis AL)
Hunter
Jones (portrait Detroit)
La Porte
Lattimore
Lord
Lundgren (Kansas City)
Maddox

Maloney
Marshall
Mattern
McAleese
McBride
McElveen
McLean
Milan
Miller (Pittsburg)
Mullen (portrait)
Murray (bat)
Myers (bat)
Nattress
Phillippe
Puttman
Rhodes
Ritter
Rudolph
Schirm
Schlafly

Schreck
Shannon
Sharpe
Snodgrass (bat)
Starr
Willett

460 SERIES......consists of 46 cards......the NO-PRINTS are:

Kleinow (Boston)
Smith (Chicago & Boston)

The 48 Southern Leaguers are NO-PRINTS.

And, the St. Louis variations are NO-PRINTS......

Demmitt (St Louis American)
O'Hara (St Louis Nat'l)

Furthermore, the 6 super prints were also printed with the SOVEREIGN 460 back. A set that includes these cards is complete
with 408 cards. NOTE....these 6 super-prints with the SOVEREIGN 460 back are very difficult to find (relative to all the other
SOVEREIGN cards).

Shown here, are the color variations of certain cards with SOVEREIGN 350 backs. The next post here will explore this color
difference. And, identify the 66 cards that were printed with these "apple green" colored backs.
.....
..............apple green backs

...............normal green back

Two updates........

The 350 SERIES list has been updated to reflect my inadvertent omission of Downey (fielding) being a SOVEREIGN 350 series NO-PRINT.

The 150 SERIES list has been updated to reflect Art Martineau's input regarding the Crawford (throwing) being a NO-PRINT with a SOVEREIGN 150 back.

Default FYI....T206 SOVEREIGN set confirmed lists....UPDATED

Unlike the PIEDMONT print runs of the subjects in the 150/350 Series which essentially all were printed with both 150
and 350 backs, the SOVEREIGN print runs omitted the 350 back on a fair number of subjects in the 150/350 Series.

It is more convenient here to list the "NO-PRINTS". To date, there is a total of 66 "NO-PRINTS".

This list of 12 cards in the 150/350 Series are definite SOVEREIGN 350 NO-PRINTS ..........

Lundgren (Cubs)

and,

the "Elite Eleven" ..........

Dahlen (Boston)
Ewing
Ganley
T. Jones (St Louis)
Karger
Lindaman
Mullin (horizontal)
Schaefer (Detroit)
Schulte (front view)
Shaw (St Louis)
Spencer

And, listed here are 58 (or 57) subjects in the 150/350 Series which appear to be SOVEREIGN 350 "NO-PRINTS"......

Ball (New York)
Bates
Beaumont
Bergen (bat)
Bowerman

I think 8 of the 9 guys listed here NOT YET confirmed with EPDG's will eventually be found.

However, I have very little confidence that the Schulte card will ever be discovered with an EPDG back.

Your inputs regarding this survey are very appreciated.
