Time for bed haha

I didn't win anything. On the items I sold, most were in the ballpark of what I was expecting except one went way low and one went a lot higher, so they basically canceled each other out.

Fun day, amazing auction. Wasn't a ton of items that fit squarely in my collection, which saved me some money. Loads of items that had me thinking, "I should start a collection of those..." but I held strong.

And it's over. I got the T3 Merkle, but nothing else.

Default WOW! What an auction

It is both frustrating (because I can't afford it all) and exciting to see some of the oddballl, test and regionals get some respect (in prices realized - Mantle Dice - 144K incl juice). That said, next to a 300K Rookie you could buy any day of the week, 144k doesn't sound like much for a card that money probably couldn't buy again tomorrow (or the next 10-20 years for that matter).

I started out with opening bids on about 90 lots. When the dust settled I ended up with 6. Fought hard for a few more, but backed off.

59 Mantle Bazooka box, 59 Mantle salesman sample panel, Exhibit display signs, and 3 T3's - My first foray into prewar!! - the Clarke, Camnitz and Leach - I am collecting Pirate team sets from 1952-1973 with my kids. My 11 year old actually expressed interest in getting into some of the tobacco era cards - So I figured these would be a nice start! Already told him he can work on the T206 Wagner when he starts earning money!!

Go figure, No Clemente items!!

I lost the D350-1 Ruth with 2 minutes left, but ended up with the ‘33 Goudey advertising poster.

I got the T216 Cobb, f50 harrington’s Babe Ruth and the m101-5 WaJo.

I am so stoked on the Cobb. I was surprised it was such a sleeper!

I won 2 lots and am pretty excited. I got a N28 Cap Anson card (my first 19th century card) and an E95 Eddie Plank....

What do you think about the 53 Topps with PSA 6 Mantle & Mays going for 9k before BP? I thought it would touch 12 grand fully loaded. Also, the 56 Topps with the PSA 7 Mantle and the other 7’s went for 8k before BPv

I was in on the 53-55 Red Mans for a while and will probably regret backing out but it was a fun auction. I think the PSA 5 Mantle for 2 grand was decent value. Everything else I was after felt like it hit the going price before the vig was added.

Edit to add - 2400 on the Mantle - it got bumped at the end. I think that is a 3k card For a nice example in a 5 holder. So 2400+ BP got it close to that number

Earlier in the thread, I expressed surprise at the price on the Topps All-Stars Robin Roberts card. Needless to say, I am even more shocked at the hammer price of $132,000. I know it is a legendary rarity. I just didn't think it was a six-figure rarity.

https://bid.robertedwardauctions.com...e?itemid=48918

The Stanky and Konstanty cards went for $45,000 each.

Stunned to have won the lot of 10 OJ's as I am generally looking for deals, also was the only bidder on one of the shoe box lots. Didn't expect to find "bargains" I've sold with REA before but this was my first time bidding.

Yeah, I’ve bitched about auction closing times for 5 years and in that period nearly all of the major ones have changed their closing procedures. I guess maybe my dumbness is on to something.

Nice pick up on the T216. That is one rare Cobby. I lost out on my main goal, The Big Show Ruth as it went for around double what I would have paid. I just need more money.

Consignor want it open as long as possible. I'm sure 1 out of 100 items people miss until that last day of bidding. Without material, there would n't be any auction. There will be buyers and, to paraphrase The Matrix, "there are levels of prices we are prepared to accept"

Yeah not a big fan of the new format and will not bid in another REA auction again until it changes.

Was high bidder in extended bidding for 11 and a half hours and then found out later that I was out bid at the end. I would rather have it be on a Saturday and stay up all night vs Sunday and they hold you hostage from "after 6 it will close at any time until 12:30am or what ever stupid time it was.

There is not a better solution than this, really?

I agree the pseudodrama of "it could close any time" was unnecessary. Obviously they were going to run it until very close to midnight. That said, a hard stop seems better to me than an all nighter.

It was very clear that the close was going to be at 12 am sharp as bids were coming in at 20-30 per minute right up until the end

At the very end they should have said they decided to keep it open 5 more minutes. Can you imagine those 5 minutes of bids?

Then just say its a hard close at midnight and forget the 6:00 thing, then I will just wait until 11:58 and place my bid. That is what I will do next time, just snipe then like eBay.

But I do think 12 hours of extended bidding is a bit much after its been online for what 3-4 weeks?

Why not place a higher max bid?

At 10:30pm, I spent 15 mins placing my max bids on lots and went to bed. Not sure why anyone had to wait around for 12 hours and ruin an entire Sunday.

I don't have a problem with the ending format for REA. I won a bunch of stuff, stuff I really wanted and stuff I overbid on. Nothing new there, of course. The only issue I had with REA during closing time was the system was slow. I started placing my final bids around 11:30pm EST, and there were times when the system was timing out on me. I was checking my emails to see if I were outbid because I couldn't get a list of my current bids to display. It all worked out in the end, but I think REA should try to add some bandwidth to handle this for their fall auction.

Ha. Perhaps Steve is the Ralph Nader of the baseball card industry, and we will one day celebrate the reforms he ushered in through his activism.

I like that if you had an initial bid by 12 noon that only you can bid on that item the rest of the auction. I think it should then go into extended bidding for 9-10 hours for these bidders. After that, each item could close individually if no bid for more than 15 minutes. So the earliest the auction could end is maybe 10:15 pm on some items and others could go until no bids are received for 15 minutes. Maybe lower to 5 minutes after Midnight. Also this Eliminates snipe bids . As long as a bid is received the item stays alive.

How about that 54 Banks PSA 7? $4800 has to be a record for a 7.

Oh I did place my max bids which were outbid almost 12 hours later. I'm sort of amazed that no one has issues with it lasting that long. Like I said, it is what it is, I personally don't like it is all. They just won't get my business, not that it's a big deal but there are plenty of "other" guys out there so there is a never ending amount of stuff so you miss an auction twice a year. Not a big deal in my eyes and it might save someone else money too.

I am not seeing your grievance. If it ended 6 hours earlier, you still in all likelihood would have been outbid because someone wanted it more than you did. They just bid at the end and would have done so whenever the end was.

Just be thankful you were even given the opportunity to "win" items in such a wonderful auction. Dissent is not welcome. One party line here. if you want to question or criticize an auction please head to the line marked "Probstein/Yepg/PWCC".

Holy crap on the Schulte, very tough common, but not that much. What back did it have Greg? Chance yellow is a very unusual HOFer, up and down all over the place. I would think the Red version would be more like that....

As a seller, I was watching the pace of the bids and thinking the same thing lol.

Nope I'll be first in this line thanks.

And Peter you are probably right I may have been outbid six hours earlier which is fine. This is not a knock on them just personal preference, is that good with you?

I will say when I do sell my high dollar items some day they may go to REA for their 8 day extended bidding session that should be in place by then.

Default Closing Time

I'm sure some bidders liked the earlier closing time but as a consignor I would have preferred some more of the alcohol infused 3,4, and 5 AM bids.

Brad that's funny. Or they may have a rule that the auction ends only when there's been a week without any bidding.

REA

I love the history, just question the REA impact on prices for no reason other than profit.

With the internet, we can grade anything without a premium..

What does that mean? And as for an impact on prices I don't think it's necessarily REA as much as the bidders. REA does a great job but they don't set any prices. You have the tail wagging the dog.
