I picked this up in Lelands last night. Pre-war baseball art seems quite hard to find. Can anyone recall seeing this image before or a magazine in which it appeared?

Thanks

Is that Bob Meusel? Hard to read first name. If so it is post 1920. Hard to say where it came from. I've never seen it before.

Steve

It does say Meusel. As he is in his Cincinnati uniform, I believe this painting would not be before 1930

Thanks Dan,
I was trying to tell Max that the piece was Done by John Cullen Murphy I believe for Colliers Magazine June of 1955. The article was done by Milton Gross and was called Durochers secret weapon the hit and run, done for the 1954 world series. John Cullen Murphy is best known for the comic strip Prince Valliant. And Big Ben Bolt but way back in the 30s-50s John did many works for Colliers,Look,Life,Sport and sports Ill. We became very good friends and I have many pieces from him. He died in 2004 at 85. I will try and send some more of the work to Dan if he will be so kind as to post them for me.

Thanks Dan for doing the posting. I have about 10 more as time allows I will send them. One of these days I will have to pick up the magazines that these were in. John covered all fields of sports. The football one is very early for him done in 1936.
