Default Mets fans will enjoy

March 1982 letter from GM Frank Cashen to somebody about how important George Foster was to the team. Uh huh. He lasted a few months.

George Foster remained with the Mets until he was released on August 7th, 1986.

I once had an apologetic letter from Cashen regarding the loss of Tom Seaver when he was selected by the White Sox as compensation for losing a player to free agency. I don't know what has happened to that letter.

It's funny but right after Foster was released for his public comments everyone was in an uproar. I was a teenager and huge Mets fan and it was a big part of that great year. Anyway, my father and myself were going to a game and, shockingly, stuck in New York traffic trying to get into parking at Shea. Who do you think was stuck in the same traffic right next to us? George Foster himself trying not to be recognized in the crowd where everyone had opinions.
