Default Help Needed w/ a 1919 Hal Chase Photo

This photo of Hal Chase was in a small box of items that I have had for a few years. The items belonged to a former minor league player from my hometown who played in the 40's so he wasn't a contemporary of Chase's.

In any case, I was wondering if anyone else has seen a photo like this of Chase that dates to his last season in the majors (1919) by the NY Giants uniform he is wearing. Also, not sure if the handwriting is Chase's or not and not sure who the Doc is he is referring to in the inscription. I looked through most of the 1919 NY Giants roster but didn't see anyone with the nickname Doc.

The photo is mounted to an old cardboard frame. I can send a larger scan of the photo if needed. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Dewey

I found this Hal Chase autograph example on eBay. The handwriting is close.

I've attached a better example of the photo although not sure why it's coming in sideways...

Drooling...I'm of the opinion that's written in Chase's own hand...

I'm kind of leaning that way too. I just read Chase's bio on SABR and wasn't aware of his alleged connection to the 1919 World Series.

Default Chase signature

Looks good to me. Here is his signature from a Spalding store model bat.
