I need to brush up on my acronyms.... not sure what FFS means. I will say that when I saw this, I immediately thought M&N Reproduction. The only known version in this style is 3/4 size, and the seller claims this is full-sized.

Very funny, although I would argue that you're equally likely to find one under Greg's Pool Table, or somewhere in Appleton, WI.

Mitchell and Ness repro, late 1990s. Seller should know. I bought one of these, in person, from Mitchell & Ness’ old store in Philly. And Mark is spot on. I’ve only seen this in 3/4 size in color, it’s a cool logo.

LOL … I wish! That Walter Johnson pennant should be an easy $10K, possibly more. I think a smaller one dated 1924 with the sane graphic went in the mid teens.

That's a really nice Walter Johnson pennant. I hadn't seen one before but I wish I spent more time on Facebook.

Just giving the thread a push … going through my tubs I came across this simple, elegant Trench Reds pennant from (my guess) early 50s. I saw that one like this sold on eBay not long ago, I think it’s otherwise pretty rare. Strangely I haven’t seen this in any other color … Mark, do you have this in red?

I’m a big fan of this series, where the team name is in 2-D letters, no cursive or block lettering.

This does have the uneven coloring in the logo, which I’ve seen before on other Trenches.

Additional note regarding the series to which the above Reds belongs … I don’t think the Tigers have one. I’ve never seen it. I don’t think the Boston Braves have one, either, although they do have Trench scroll versions from 1949 and 1950, and a couple with the year in a screened ribbon

Thanks for the “push”, Greg! Do you think the Reds logo always had kind of a tie-dye look? Or was it a solid pink or red (if you had to guess)?

I would assume it is just an imperfection in the screening process. Domer would have a much better idea, hopefully he can elaborate.

I agree. All these makers, including Trench, I noticed tended to get a little quick with the airbrush when spraying on the secondary coloring.

Most likely it left the factory like that; but, I can't rule out exposure to moisture, cleaning products, etc. that can cause those delicate colors to run over time.

Rob: have you had success cleaning (or bleaching) a pennant that was polychromatic? I would think the white underbase layer would do well; but, always feared the applied colors would run.

Not sure which Rob but yes...I did experiment with cleaning/bleaching 60s polychromatic pennants a few years back. Generally, white ones cleaned up nicely and the graphics held up fine...except for the color red. Red bleeds pretty badly but generally stops after the outer layer sloughs off and if you keep rinsing with water, all the bleeding washes away with no bleeding stains left behind. Sometimes, but not always, the red graphics have a slightly faded look after but it's more uniform than that Reds pennant which leads me to believe it was probably made that way with some aging/fading factored in as well.

I just noticed an ebay sale of these three mini pennants that I believe are from American Knitwear/Keezer. Very rare. Just thought I would show them here (they are not mine... I only own the Giants). I'll also add pics of examples from other teams I've seen. The Pirates is stamped American Knitwear (we discussed that one and the Giants a few months back). I admit that they may not all be from the same series or even maker, but they share a number of similarities (with one being rarity).

I'm picking up what you're putting down, Marc.

One slight anomaly I noticed is the Angels...the location and team name are reversed on that one, compared to all the others.

A little trick to fool the eye...these homemade tassels aren't even attached. They're just laid on the pennant.

Even more betrayal … what’s next, Chief Wahoo on an Indian reservation pennant? I’m ready to auction away all my Trenches in disgust … well, almost

Okay... enough silence on the matter. Did anyone here win this one?

https://www.ebay.com/itm/22546887135...p2047675.l2557

Apparently it comes straight from the former Equipment Manager's estate, and looks perfect for the era.... albeit I have never seen this variation before.

Eager to hear "Football Rob's" thoughts on this one, and whether or not he was the lucky winner. I actually thought it would exceed $1K, and would definitely have set my snipe accordingly (in the old days!)

I had seen the Titans pennant on Rob's Felt Football site, but had never seen it for sale before. Strange that it is nothing like the actual team colors.

It was an interesting week for Titans/Jets stuff, as this odd but very rare pennant sold as well.

That's so cool.... I somehow missed that one. So much nicer than the typical plain old helmet pennant.

I was watching this and on the fence about bidding. I know an AFL super collector who has one and believes it's the real deal and this guy is pretty knowledgeable. And the equipment manager comment did give me pause.

But something about this pennant doesn't feel vintage and I'm bothered by the colors. It's very different than any other Titans pennant that exists. The fat tassels seem odd. I'm not convinced and for that money, I can think of a few others I'd rather have. Though my fingers did start to twitch as I stared at the "bid now" button in the closing seconds.

It was an interesting week for Titans/Jets stuff, as this odd but very rare pennant sold as well.
This one is so rare and odd. Looks like an old man in an astronaut helmet. Would love to know the story on these one offs. Where are all the other teams? So many unique styles out there that seem to exist for only one or a handful of teams. Primarily from the 1960s. I don't think the same phenomena exists for baseball pennants does it?

Thought I'd add a pic of the Titans pennant.

The Jets pennant was in a lot and the tip looked like it had been torn and taped back on the pennant. But I think it still sold really well.

I'm mostly convinced that the company putting the stars on football and baseball pennants (with no MLB or NFL logos) was from New York. So I'm not totally shocked by the one-off version for the Jets.

The graphic is unlike anything of the era, it looks like it was sketched in ink (modern) and can’t crack, as opposed to screenprinted. Would like to see the stitching to compare to known Keezers; if not similar then I’d lean heavily towards this being a modern production or a fugazi.

That Jets pennant is seriously cool.

Thanks. That picture is after I used Retro Clean. I didn't leave it in for very long (only about 5-10 mins) because...well... it's a red pennant. :-) I've also had a bad experience where I left a pennant for too long and the white started to come apart. and the red bled through.

I might have another go in the future, if I feel like gambling. But I'm happy with it as it is for the moment.

Just a heads-up to let the "pennant guys" know a new video was just posted on one of my favorite all-time pennants. Hope you enjoy...

What a spectacular Cubs pennant. And the condition is incredible. Did the Cubs also have a “B.B.C.” version of this? It’s definitely made by the same maker as that series.

Also a great pic from what seems to be Forbes Field during the 1960 WS, cool to see all the Trenches hanging.

So … the painfully obvious Mitchell and Ness late 1990s Orioles pennant sold recently under the mislabel of “circa 1954”

https://www.ebay.com/itm/20421982548...Bk9SR6TIlP7cYQ

… and the new owner was in such a hurry to flip it (also misstating it as circa 1954) that he used the same exact picture from the first sale! Someone please make it stop!

https://www.ebay.com/itm/36418407401..._7cYQ&LH_BIN=1

EDIT: Original picture slightly cropped to not show edge of table. My bad.

It’s actually a shame it isn’t vintage. It’s maybe the best Orioles logo. But as Mark believes, it was never used in color on a full-size pennant. Here it is on a 3/4 size. Trench used a rather ugly blackbird logo instead for many years.

Also interesting about that oriole is that it is among the logos on that 1956 kids book that I post ad nauseum. Most of the other logos were WGN and the Reds was Keezer. Chisox and Phillies were not used.
