I read somewhere where these bakelite pins were given out to women at Ladies Nights. Have no proof and don't remember the source. Anyone else heard this?

Kool Forbes "Ladies Day" sign.

@Leon - Kool and the Gang can be quite catchy.

Check out this awesome commercial about 'Baseball Optimism', with a Kool and the Gang song.

Rob - This type of pin has always been described as Bakelite and the plastic appears to me to be just that. What do you think it is?

I never gave it any thought. Apparently, Formula 409 can be used for a quick and reliable test.
