Default Show me your Charles "Chief" Bender cards!

I have this one:

My wife and I are expecting our first child in October of this year so it is time to downsize my collection. I have it listed on ebay for $7,500 or best offer.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&sspagename=STRK%3AMESE%3AIT&viewitem=&item=230130837975&rd=1&rd=1

So far haven't received anything reasonable. I am not in a hurry to sell it and I will miss the card. I love the big white borders and centering. It's just time to move on to another stage of my life.

David, the lack of 'reasonable' offers may have something to do with the unreasonable BIN price of $7500. It just sold for $4915 in Mastro's December acution.

I'm aware of that, but a lesser example also sold for $7,162 a month before in the SCP auction. The problem with ebay is that everyone wants to bargain. I will drop my asking price $1,000 to $6,500, but the problem I have found is that when I don't leave room to bargain, all I end up with is offers 50% less than what the seling price should be.

...and another Bender 8 sold for $4780 right before that. Why not just put it on ebay and sell it for what it's worth?

David- when I list on ebay I start every lot at $9.95 with no reserve. And while an occasional obscure or lower grade card may go for a little less than hoped, I've never sold a card of the quality of that Bender that didn't do extremely well. The results often exceed my expectations. Putting a BIN well above retail turns off prospective bidders. Just my two cents.

The one that sold in the Heritage auction was crap. Also, Heritage does not get any play. I don't like to take the risk of an ebay auction with high dollar cards when there might not be many people watching for a given week. If I go the auction route, I will go with a big name auction house and take my chances. I haven't turned down any reasonable offers. Just not looking to fire sale it. It is a very nice 8 and there are people who want a quality example instead of a holder to add to their registry sets.

Barry,
Thanks for the suggestion. I have a couple of days left on the listing and I will wait to see if I get any decent offers. If not, I might list it on ebay at a $.99 opening bid. I just prefer to work down from a number and get to a reasonable price than to take the risk of not having a bidder step up to the plate.

David, I find that a card like that will find buyers. If you're concerned that all the deep pocket guys are taking a trip together out of the country away from their computers for a week, you might try a 10 day auction. The card is worth what it will sell for and ebay is a pretty good indicator of interest. That two of the last three Bender 8s sold for less than 2/3 of your BIN may be some indication that you won't do much more on an ebay sale, though.

David- your PSA 8 Bender is very nice even for an 8, and like you said it is perfectly centered with wide borders. It will sell for its market value... guaranteed.

You might be right. I'm a firm believer in letting the market decide the value. The lone exception is if you have a piece that's one of a kind, or nearly so. Then I too would try to squeeze every penny out of it.

Unfortunately, a T206 Bender is far from one of a kind. A beautiful card no doubt, but it does have a ceiling. Buyers have other places to go if it is too expensive.

and this is the probably the scarcest I have.....also the best poor conditioned card I've almost ever seen....there is some chipping on the back, in mostly the blank area which accounts for the grade....

You got rooked on that grade- that should be at least a 20, if not a 30.

Thats an awesome D303 Leon. I think i see where the paperloss is on the side of the card. SGC can be brutal when it comes to paperloss, no matter how nice the rest of the card is.
