Default Calling all t206 SCRAP experts!

I am writing to lean on some of your expertise! I have stumbled upon this card which is available to purchase. I only have pics, not in hand holding. Can someone shed some light on if they think this is a real deal y/b scrap! If it is, can some share their knowledge on theory of “print run” of these? Hard to find value! I’m in love with the card but don’t want to overpay by 100000%, so if someone would share value opinions (I know it’s opinion so please no arguments with each other). Thanks!

-Mitch

It's a nice example, there are 3 other Mathewson's that I know of here's one of the three (not my card).

Mathewson (Dark Cap) YB Scrap.jpg

The previous 3 that i know of are in one of Chris's post in this thread. I'm not sure if the one you posted is one of them.

Just a question. Can the sun bleach a card like that?

I have a couple that saw 40+ years of sun while framed in a barbershop.
Other than the bright red, they look just fine.

Considering how few are out there, I'd be surprised if there was more than 1-2 sheets of these, probably just one.

I saw that card on the Facebook group. It's hard to put a price on the HOF players. The common players sell for around $800-$1200 and the HOF players is all about supply and demand, and hard to price. Maybe 50+ percent over regular issue?? There's probably around 4 known, but some other players from the same printing have up to 8 known cards. I own a bunch of the full color scrap versions that were printed at the same time as these yellow/brown scraps. It was probably the same guy that took them from the print shop. I sell common player scraps at around $600 and I have one HOF card (Crawford) left, that I usually sell for $1000.

That's the real deal. It's obviously trimmed, but beautiful eye appeal. I can see that bringing a hefty hefty premium for sure.

Definitely the real deal, as mentioned it's one of the 34 potential cards/poses known as a "yellow brown" scrap, likely 5-8 examples of each survived.

For the uninitiated, can someone explain what is meant by "scrap?" Are these cards that weren't meant for release, like a test run?

Scrap means they were mess ups at the printer, so rather than factory cut them and put them in packs, they cut them up by hand and “discarded” (or “scrapped”) them. People must have taken them home bc many of them survive today

Scraps as a blanket catch all name for any card that is obviously either a misprint or not intended for release as a production item is ok.

But it covers a lot of ground where I think it's inaccurate. Especially with cards like this.

I should probably put those thoughts into their own thread.

The "Yellow/Brown" scraps are in my opinion, scraps, but they are part of a T206 subset of their own. Consisting of 29 different cards with the Sweet Caporal 350-460 Factory 30 back, which can't be found in full color, because they were never issued for release in packs, without their Overprint Scroll and the addition of the Factory 42 line added below. These 29 cards are also known as "Group A". The six Super Prints are also a part of this "Group A", and can be found with the same "Yellow/Brown" color scheme. The only difference is that the six Super Prints can be found in full color with the Sweet Caporal 350-460 Factory 30 back, because they were issued in packs with this Factory and Subject combination, unlike the other 29 cards.

The "Group B" subset consists of 28 different cards and follow the same pattern as the "Group A" backs. Where they were not issued in packs, without their Scroll Overprint and the addition of the Factory 42 line added below. The other difference between these 28 cards, and the 29+6 cards above, is they have always been found in full color, and are known as the "No Prints", even identified by PSA with the same term.

Below is a scan of my "No Print" Group B Full Color Scrap Set. At this point in time, this is the only known complete 28 card set. A second set is possible to complete, but a few of the cards only have two known examples that exist. And those cards are locked up in different owners sets. I own a decent amount of a second set, and know where most of the other cards are, that would be needed to assemble a second set.
