Why didn't either of my grandfather's collect cards? Scan is bad, story isn't very good. Has really only sold a half dozen or so cards. Feedback is lite. Wouldn't touch it.

Obvious fakes. Although, I am sorry to hear that his grandfather got stuck to something or other...

Lovely Day...

Iggyman - Too funny!!! - I had to go back and reread that. "Pasted".
Good thing I wasn't drinking Tomato Juice when I read that, my computer screen would have looked like a crime scene.

Matthew - love it! I love this board........ or like the seller would have said, I love this bored.

I say FAKE!!!

Top and left borders on each card are very wide while the right border is narrow. Also, the corners are rounded in a uniform way.

If you read the "me" section, it says they are a sports collectibles business which, to me, means they KNOW about grading services but just choose to NOT get these two cards professionally graded. That begs the question WHY?

Of course, there is THEN the story about the Grand Father. Instead of pasted maybe they meant plastered, as in, the Grand Father was falling down drunk when he bought these two cards.

It is hard to say without the proper forensic scans and certification. If only there was a company that could provide that service.

Ignoring the description which reeks of a scam....
Just looking at the scans... Its not easy to tell, but the caption on the Cobb seems too condensed (squished). Would need bigger scans to be sure.

You had me at ALL CAPS.

Actually, the cards don't look bad to me from what can be seen from the photo, but I would not trust the seller at all. My guess is it is a stolen scan.

By the way, what does "PASTED" mean? I feel like I am a pretty educated guy, but don't know that word.

I think it's the past tense of passed. The one thing going for these cards is that they weren't found in the attic.

Interesting fakes. I can't recall borders quite that big on any reproductions that appear as nice as these do.

Nobody mentioned that they have no feedback for a year. Hijacked account? Or just someone like me that stopped selling for awhile?
Of course I haven't stopped buying.....

I'd be more inclined towards good cards from a stolen image than fakes.

Either way I don't think the "winner" will ever see them.

I borrowed a couple of real T206 Cobb and Young pics from eBay and put them next to "grandpaw's" cards (after resizing). The fake cards (middle pic) looked washed-out to me. Typical of a copy machine (aka Kinko) modern reproduction.

Lovely Day...

I agree; this is probably a hijacked eBay account. The cards look real to me. After looking at this auction, I was reading the eBay Buyer Protection FAQs and saw this: "Once we've confirmed the item was returned to the seller, you'll receive a refund into your PayPal account." Maybe this is how the scammer's win? You only get your money back once the item has been shipped, received and signed for by the seller. If it's a fake address, or a hijacked address, then you're at a loss.

If he sold them at different times and up'd the resolution and contrast a smidge, he would have done much better $$.

Front and back, the cuts are too similar, as well as the bbw borders.

Too tough to make out a big D or C.

Otherwise, Well done with the aging and toning. $500 dollars!

I guess I assume that every card that is not slabbed or sold by a seller with only %97 feedback and less than 100 stars is fake.

That's usually a very solid assumption. The card pictured in that auction is indeed real. Whether the seller actually owns it, who knows.

I just bought a Sweet Caporal Cobb Bat On last night. Paid 600 for a PSA 2. To think! i could have had one in much better condition, and a Young to boot! All for an additional 23 bucks. I'm sick...

Look how close Ty's belt is to the left margin in the fake. Look how close the butt of his bat is to the right margin on the fake. Look at the slope of Ty's shoulder how it is cropped on the fake.

Look how Cy's hand is cropped in the right margin of the fake.

FAKE>>FAKE>>FAKE

Now we wait and see if the buyer leaves good feedback.
