Default 300 Game Winners

Clemens v. Maddux tonight is only the fifth time in history that two pitchers with at least 300 wins in their resume faced each other. Don Sutton was involved in three of the other four times in the eighties. The first time this happened, however, is right down this forum's alley.

Anyone know who the first pair of 300 win pitchers pitching with 300 wins were? (Fascinating hint, Cy Young is not one of them).

The fifth matchup of 300-game winners was Clemens v. Maddux on 4/29/05:

Mark, thanks for the correction, this is the sixth matchup. And it is indeed Pud Galvin and Tim Keefe who met on July 21st, 1892 before a crowd of 585. Keefe won 8-2.

By the way, Turner, I presume that's the Galvin OJ pic, gotta love them putting a man who pitched in over 700 games holding a bat!

Almost bowled a perfect game in 5 pin bowling. Thats almost equal to a 300 game in 10 pin lol.

290 is the best I claim. Lee came close a few years ago with a 299.

Is it actually possible to bowl a 304 or a 318? I dont profess to be a bowler, but I always understood 300 to be the highest score possible - i.e. a perfect game.

I saw the Sutton / Niekro game at Angel Stadium in the mid 1980s. Sadly, I don't even remember who won.

300 in bowling is a perfect game -- 12 strikes. You can't score higher in a SINGLE game. Back in my NJ days, my best was 276 (bucket in 5th or 6th). Although I did throw 16 or 17 straight across two games once.

Back to Maddux. One of the greatest pitched games in our era, IMO, was back in 2000 when he threw a complete game with only ~80 pitches, that lasted well under 2 hours. I'm sure someone has details.

In five pin bowling, the highest score possible is 450. However, five pin is only popular in Canada and other nether regions of the world
