ps..an answer to the question on the Mantle cards

"PS. In response to questions if the Mantle PSA 10 baseball cards are light in color--The answer is that the colors are deep in color. Unfortunately my scanner did not pick up the true color of the cards."

I like the way Ruth spells "Sincrrely".....it is exactly the same spelling on
my copy of his autograph. Incidently, how many are aware that Ruth was
ambidexterous ?
He threw Left-handed....but consistently signed Right-handed.

"sincerely" is spelled correctly. He used the same "E" that he used at the end of Babe in all of his writing and it does look like an "R" when it is connected to letters on both sides.

Upon closer observation of Leon's pix, I have to agree with you. By comparing
the "e" in "Babe" with the script in "Sincerely", you make a valid point.

However, on Ruth's signature in my book the first "e", to me, still looks like an "r".

Hi Ted,

Definitely is harder to tell in your book. Particularly since he signed over the printing. That said, no one has ever said that Babe was a rocket scientist so sincrrely wouldn't be that far off base.

Beautiful. That photo looks a lot like Nickerson (Braves)Field? The striped socks give it away. Babe just had to come back to Boston for his swan song. Take that Harry Frazee!

Striped socks can be deceiving. In this case they are part of the uniform U.S. Major Leaguers wore during their 1934 tour of Japan. If I'm not mistaken, this was only a tour of Japan, not the rest of the world, so perhaps it would be more accurate to call it a "1934 Japan Tour Babe Ruth PC."

Plus, Ruth didn't play for Boston until the 1935 season.

This is the most interesting piece from the Marshall Fogel collection that Leon has posted yet. I realize most board members love those high-grade caramel and tobacco cards, but I like the more obscure and unusual stuff.

Great piece! Thanks for sharing it with us. Now let's see some great Negro League items like that absolutely ridiculous photo of Josh Gibson that appears in that Smithsonian book!!!
