I think it would be sacrilegious to cut up a strip like that. I have many and sold many, and although contemplated doing it, have never done it. To me it's a little bit like the friggin' (@Tbob) cutting up jerseys and putting them in cards.....I won't say I will never do it but don't think I will....

Why trim it up? I assume it's because the resale of the high grade cards is better? I would think something like that would be scarce enough to hold its value in one piece. It certainly displays better as a strip, and I hope you either keep it as such or sell it to someone who will. That's a great looking piece; I sure hope it stays intact.

I hear you. What would a strip bring compared to high grade singles?

I've always been curious as to the dimensions of the as-issued W590 cards

Its like an unopened pack. They are getting rarer (IS THAT A WORD ) every day because people are opening them. I say leave it alone. Besides you never know if you will damage it while cutting it up.

Warshawlaw,

The book says the single strips are approx. 1.375" w x 2.5" tall. This strip measures exactly 2.825" tall. So according to the book there is alot of extra stock on top. Thoughts?

It looks like getting a very high grade Alexander may not be a problem, but many of the others are printed close together. I'd check with a grading company to determine what size borders are necessary. If feasible, Id then determine who can reliably cut the strip up for me. There very well could be sufficient money involved to make your choices obvious. At no point in time would I get out my exacto, eyeglasses, and hack at it. It would be a business decision involving professionals, costs and anticipated profit; or it would stay as made.

Thats the thing about W590s, the cards never have big borders on both sides because of the design of the strip. All the strips Ive seen are exactly like this one with the number at the end (next to Grimm), and the thin borders between cards. I have never seen a Gehrig Strip, But I have seen or owned 4-5 of this strip (Grimm-Speaker). If I ever sent a W590 to be graded Id add a note telling them the left and right border are normally thin (In case they didnt know). I have dont this when Ive sold singles in the past, even including a scan of a strip like this one.

Also to add, these W590 cards came in 10 card strips like this one and also sheets of something like 5 cards wide by 5 cards high, with most cards being othersports or nonsports. Ive owned 3 strips and one sheet in the past.

BTW, Id Keep it whole.

With the emails I received and the response here, I'm not going to be responsible for cutting this strip. I like single cards but, this does look good intact. Thanks for your opinions and help.
