Default W590 strip card configuration.....and R315 too :)

Recently, while updating my personal collection website I put in a strip of W590's that were 10 long (1 x 10). I already had a strip of them that is (5 x 4). What do any other members have? I am curious how they were normally issued? (sorry for the long scan) best regards

the largest Ive seen are 5X5 and the 1X10

But you will often see them cut down to 1X5 too, but dont know if they were issued that way or cut later.

Baseball are W590, but these sheets also include other sports and W589 cards.

The boxers from the same series are sometimes called W580 but W580 in the ACC is said to be related to the baseball W572's so I dont think its correct unless you say W580-1, etc.
If you do an eBay search of "1923 W580" you will see boxers and movie stars etc listed but I believe most are related to W572 because they have the wider left and right borders and caption is slight different font.

here is a W589 strip of 10

here are the W580 (W572 like)

Thanks Barry...all the best to you and yours in this fine holiday season too!!

And an interesting note too, if I am not mistaking there are 7 out of 10 Hofer's on that strip of 10 above. That is quite the frequency.

The W580s are easily distinguished by the typeface: sans serif:

As opposed to the W590s:

As for W590 configurations, I have seen both 5 x 5 sheets and 1x10 strips.

Nice strip cards. Its nice to see how they came back in the day. I would like to see a strip with Ruth on it. I only have a single W590.

Default leon and HOFers

leon,
you do have quite a few HOFers in the strip.
i have a strip of 8 w515-1 with 5 HOFers: sisler,baker,frisch,grimes,heilmann.
i think you have a similar strip if i'm not mistaken.
sure wish my strip would've contained 10---then cobb would've been there.

best,
barry

Default R315 configuration

ON the heels of the question about the configurations of W590, has anyone seen any other of these strips of 5 vertical R315s? Mostly I see strips of 3 in a horizontal fashion. I picked up the 3-strip of the Ruth in Mckinney TX, a couple miles down the road from where I live. kind regards (poor scans but the strips are correct)

and btw, any ideas on why Burdick would have thought these were an R series (Recent Candy and Gum), when they probably should have been a W series?

Burdick did a number of those sorts of mislabels with obscure sets. E282 Oh Boy Gum should be an R card as it was a Goudey product. R94 (with The Babe Comes Home movie cards) should be a W set. A good argument could be made that the 1922 Eastern Exhibit issue should be a PC rather than a W issue. T3/T9 split is dum [sic]--the damned things are all checklisted together on the card backs!

From the little I've seen of his actual filings at the Met, I suspect that when he was confronted with an obscure issue he more or less went by what the cards looked like--if this card resembled the format of that card, he lumped them together.

I have only seen the R315's in a vertical strip of 3 - like your lower scan. I have not seen them in a horizontal strip of 5 like your top scan. However, I will say that the cards in your horizontal strip of 5 are the rarer variation with the position written in the bottom border. You will notice that your vertical strip of 3 does not have the position written in the bottom border.
