Default 1915 St Louis Globe Democrat Color Sport Supplements

I received one of these today in finishing a trade with a board member (thank you, Clint) and a question he asked leads me to post this question :

How many of these are there on the "checklist"?

They are full sized newspaper pages, approximately 17 X 23 inches.

Here is what I have :

April 25 - Cartoon about teams taking NL pennant
June 27 - Carl Weilman & Eddie Plank (popular players)
July 4 - Feds (team)
July 11 - Lee Meadows & Urban Faber (pitching sensations)
July 18 - Ty Cobb & Jake Daubert (batting stars)
July 25 - Larry Doyle & Lee Magee (batting stars)
Aug 1 - Bennie Kauff & Vic Saier (base stealers)
Aug 8 - Tris Speaker & George Burns (outfield)
Aug 15 - Rabbit Maranville & Eddie Collins (both sides of second sack)
Aug 22 - Ray Schalk & Frank Snyder (catchers)
Aug 29 - Altrock, Schaefer & Jennings (coaches)

Those are all noted as "Color Sport Supplement" with the date at the top.

I also have a color page from :
Sept 12 - Charles Comiskey (owner)
Sept 19 - Hank O'Day (umpire)

I assume there something in the Sept 5 issue, and I would be curious to see if there are any other "Color Sport Supplements" from before June 27 or after Aug 29.

Does anybody have any that I haven't listed? Does anybody have any info on these issues? Does anybody have any thoughts on these issues?

Thanx,
Doug

Your welcome Doug and thanks for the photo. I'd love to find the original artwork for these. Awesome pieces.

Thanx, Max.

They are cool in the pictures, but they are absolutely amazing in person. Quite possibly my favorites of the various supplements I have, or have seen.

I'm hoping there is somebody else in Net54-land who has some knowledge about them.

Doug

I believe that just about all of the ones that you have pictured appeared in a major auction catalogue a couple of years ago. I really tried for the Faber one as it pre-dated his rookie card but was not successful. Other than that info, I really love them amd congrats on putting together such a nice collection. They are definitely very scarce.

Thanx Phil. That was the H&S Fall 2009 auction. Just prior to that I had discovered the supplements accidentally on ebay, when I received a few in the mail a couple days before the H&S auction close I was on a mission. I think I pretty much ran the table on the ones they offered. Had I not received the ebay ones for another week, I probably wouldn't have bid so aggressively on the H&S offerings.

Next time I cross paths with a Faber, I will let you know.

Thanks, Doug, but I'm okay on Faber now, I have since picked up a 1914 Chicago postcard.

To the tune of "Lola" by the Kinks...

"Met a guy on ebay and I took him back to my place..."

Ok, well I did meet him on ebay, but actually he invited me over to his place. I went there to buy a few Tip Top Weekly, and a bunch of Work and Win issues that I need. He saw from my flickr site that I am interested in cool old baseball oriented large sized newspaper pages, so he showed me a few that he had, nothing too special, but still kind of cool, so we made a deal on those, too.

When I got home, I went to work scanning everything, saving the large pages for last, because they tend to be harder to scan in that they don't fit on my scanner, so I need to do multiple scans, then combine them so that they look like one.

Hidden behind a slightly faded 1913 page from the San Francisco Call (which shares artwork with a 1912 Collier's cover, but that's for another thread) was this wonderful page below.

I let the guy, who we will call Lola just because now the song is now stuck in my head, know about the oversight and we will factor it into our next deal.

Doug
