Default Exhibit Help

Posted By: Andy Baran

Are there any Exhibit Experts out there? Here is my question. There is a PSA Graded Al Simmons Exhibit listed on Ebay as 1923-24. I own a different Al Simmons Exhibit, that I thought was from the 1923-24 Set. Both Scans are attached.

Any idea which one is really from the 1923-24 Set? If it is the PSA graded card, what set is mine from?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Andy, I believe the card you have is the one you bought from me (Frank). I just now took a look at my SCD Catalog, and it now looks like I made a mistake in identifying the Simmons card. I originally bought the Simmons Exhibit advertised as a 1923/24, but never really took a close look at the design when I received it. I only had it for a couple days before you bought it from me. The SCD Catalog for some reason doesnt show an example picture of a 1923/24 Exhibit, but says they are basically the same design as the previous year. There is one other set that has the same front design they are called "1926-29 Postcard Back Exhibits", and thats what I now believe it is. The "1926-1929 Postcard Back Exhibit" set name in the SCD is misleading as it stats in the first sentence that cards are also found with blank backs (I never read the description until now). If you want to send it back for a refund I'll understand, as I had it listed from the wrong set, and I know you wanted the rookie. I just looked at records and it was $50 sold early Sept.2002. Let me know if you want to get a refund, my email is canofprimo@aol.com Sorry for problem. Frank

The card on the bottom is commonly designated one as part of a Postcard Back set because all but part of the first print run featured a postcard back. The first print run, initially catalogued by Elwood (Woody) Scharf as Set 81, contained blank backs or backs with a divided postcard legend. The subsequent runs, sets 82 and 83, had PC backs with legend variations. Simmons is one of the players with two poses as well, a side view and a front view.
