Default T206 Front/Back Question - Doc Adkins

In going through Scot Reader's seminal work, Inside T206, I took a look at the back combinations for our old friend, Doc Adkins. It looks like the T206 Adkins card can be found in eight different backs (American Beauty, Broadleaf, Cycle, EPDG, Piedmont, Polar Bear, and both Sweet Caps).

When I go through the population reports for SGC and PSA, I find something interesting. No EPDG cards of Adkins have ever been graded (EPDG backs are a possible combination for the Adkins card according to Reader's great research), even though backs that are more rare, such as Broadleafs are documented. In fact, as a Baltimore card collector, the EPDG Adkins appears to be the only one of the 73 possible Baltimore T206s not to be documented by a TPG while backs of Broadleafs, Carolina Brights, Drums, etc. have all been noted for the Baltimore players by SGC and PSA in their pop reports. Is a T206 Adkins with an EPDG back a real thing?

Additionally, PSA has listed two separately graded Drum backs for Adkins, even though this does not look possible according to Inside T206. Were these both simply mistakes/entry errors?

Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated, thanks!

Adkins was printed with a Drum back (not my card) but is listed as a probable no print
with an EPDG back.

Hi Dave,

When I last published (in 2009) many front/back combinations were still theoretically possible but unconfirmed. For a few years after, there was a serious effort to confirm them by Ted Z., T206 Resource and others.

Looks like I swung and missed on Adkins EPDG (most likely I got an erroneous report that Adkins EPDG was confirmed). Or perhaps I mistakenly applied the gray ("reported") shading to the Adkins EPDG block instead of the adjacent Adkins Drum block in the Inside T206 checklist.

Scot

Hi Dave

It was good to see you at the Philly Show this past weekend. It's been a while since I last seen you at this show.

Adkins is in the 350-only series, and most (if not all) T206's in this series that have American Beauty, Broadleaf, and Cycle backs will also have the Drum back.

And, Pat provided it.

I would be remiss if I didn't add that Dave Adkins, this player's grandson, is a member here. He only checks in somewhat infrequently. A nicer guy you couldn't meet.
