Default DraftKings

Doing box breaks at the National. I guess the line between the Hobby and pure gambling just got a little smaller.
Hopefully soon you can bet on the results of card breaks on their app.

I was watching an SF Giants post game show the other day and they had a betting line ad sponsored by Draftkings and announced by the hosts. My jaw dropped at how innocuous they made it seem and how infiltrated gambling has become in the sport. My takeaway?

1. This will not end well for many young people.

2. There's no longer any reason to keep Joe Jackson and Pete Rose out of the HOF.

The Mets have them reading the betting lines on air too. The only thing that makes it tolerable as a viewer is that the guys in the booth clearly do not like it

After gambling on sports, was derided by the corporations and the masses for so long, it's literally all in our collective faces, everywhere. To be quite frank, it's ridiculous.

They do a parlay throughout all the Detroit Tigers games on TV and let you know how it is progressing. Also mention how much you can win on a $100 bet, but no mention about losing. Also show how the over/under in runs change during the game.

Sitting here in NJ, weed is for sale in every town and every one and his mother is gambling on line. To think people used to go to jail for years for this stuff. Then one day you wake up and the government is taxing it and it’s all cool. Funny how that works.

I agree with everything said.

Here's something to think about. In California it is legal to smoke marijuana, but the State has banned the sale of menthol cigarettes. What the f---?

Personally, I'd much rather be around someone smoking marijuana than a menthol cigarette.

HA.

Just be careful or Greta Thunberg will come at you like a plastic straw at a sea turtle.

Edited to add: hopefully this doesn’t tap dance too close to the politics line.

Plenty of members who think the climate crisis is a joke (or worse, a "hoax") so you're probably good lol

I have no issue with the general public betting out in the open. I absolutely DO have an issue with professional athletes betting on anything involving their own sport. I have an issue with professional athletes betting period, but Im willing to look the other way a bit when they bet on completely different sports.

Im a CPA. When I was in school we were taught and that we need to avoid even the APPEARANCE of compromised integrity. Professional athletes need to meet this standard as well for the good of the sport and the business it entails. Just because some guy on Main Street can bet $100 on the Saturday afternoon game does NOT in any way shape or form make it ok for an athlete to bet in their own damn sport. Not even close.

With that said, I learned today that it was possible to bet on the Little League World Series tournament (including earlier regional rounds). While I support this being "legal", I have serious, absolute, unwaivering judgment on anyone who does. I know they dont care, but good lord......reflect for a minute on your choices.

Ultimately, my point is that we are not all subjected to the same rules and we shouldnt be as our positions in life arent the same. Pete Rose can EAD even though some loser is betting his mortgage on 12 year old baseball games.

I take it you're not much of a basketball fan?

Gambling has infected the NBA broadcasts over the last few years to an insane degree. There are full on draftkings segments before espn games. Presenters/analysts talk about betting lines instead of the game itself. Presenters literally say 'I'd hammer LeBron at over 26 tonight.' There are ad reads by commentators mid-action for in-game betting odds. The espn bosses force creatives to include betting talk in podcasts, as tv segments, in written pieces, etc. It's genuinely gross.

I even saw a pre-taped video by the studio presenters saying "I'd go on draftkings and bet on X player to score the next basket" get thrown into a game- and that player had already left with an injury that night. It's wild.

I assume I am a bit younger than most posters here. But, far more people under 35 are betting on sports than before because of this force feeding, plus the ease of access. Based on who I've talked to, a lot of younger people are throwing away a hundred+ bucks a week on insanely stupid parlays.

I think this will mess up a lot of people. And it's not even legal nationwide yet.
