Default Is there a big following for N300 Mayo's Cut Plug N300?

Or are they a less common collected series from the 19th century?

Far and away my favorite set from the 1900s. I only have two and unfortunately they are pretty much beyond my income now. Wish I had pursued them earlier.

I don't follow this set at all so I have no idea what prices are like for these cards. I was wondering what made you think this one is at a good price? Again just asking because I really have no idea on this one and wanted to know. My first thought was that it was high for a non-numerical grade. Could be wrong though.

Best regards.

I think that's a fair price for a nice looking "A" HOFer. BF I paid that much I would need to know if it was "A" bc of trimming or recoloring.

It certainly is a nice looking card. I totally agree there. What would it sell for if it was an SGC 10 then.

Based it on the rarity and a good hall of fame player and that most all Old Judge cards sell for that price even for a non hall of fame player...I may have been wrong....and searched some sales and asking price on the web.

And he has a book about him ''The Heavenly Twins Of Boston Baseball: A Dual Biography of Hugh Duffy and Tommy'' http://www.ebay.ca/itm/111046455742?...84.m1423.l2649

I figured that must mean a good player.

The seller told me recoloring. Is that worse than trimmed?

Only SGC10 sale on VCP is $445 (2008). Trouble is with these black bordered cards most 10's look like a disaster IMO. Sometimes you can find a nice front one with a demolished back.

Matter of personal preference to me. If the coloring was minimal (tips, maybe a small spot on the back), I'd prefer that to a card with a sizable haircut. I think you will find that most folks would prefer the 10 no matter how ratty it looked.

Color Added Slight Trim

The seller told me it was coloring to the back. I figured the designation ''A'' was OK since it is a card from the 1800's and from a star player. I will try to find them graded a 10 but some look so bad. I think I paid a fair price for this card since almost all Old Judge cards sell for this price and that is for the most part much more common players and that are not in the hall of fame.

Wowww!!! That is amazing!!! I think I will give this set a try as well the Old Judge cards are just to confusing for me and impossible to complete....I will buy a few hall of fame players in the 1887 set but that will be as far as I go with the Old Judge set.

Thanks.

I don't care what the back looks like. For example, I just won this:
http://www.goodwinandco.com/LotDetai...&seo=1895-Mayo

Which is a huge image upgrade over my existing:
http://i345.photobucket.com/albums/p...2012_00002.jpg

This is definitely a set of "buy the card not the grade." There are some images I will upgrade (Shindle, Tucker) but will wait for a good price.

I think the next set is the 1933 Goudey or the Fan Craze. Just can't make up my mind in which direction to go.

Default N300 Mayo Cut Plugs

Yes I do love the Mayos-----I picked up a 82 card lot last year (and trust me I paid dearly)---In a year I have sold over 50----I only do a few shows a year--The Greater Boston show and the National---I also sold quite a few mayo's on net 54--There are some great collectors here---Very hard to get the high grades due to the black borders--Loaded with Hall of Famers and variations---I will be back at the National this year with some of the Big Boys from this set.----Don

Donscards

How is the market for these cards that are graded with a ''A''? I know there is 2 other Hugh Duffy cards on Ebay right now one a 3 and the other a 4 (2550$ and 3550$) I can't afford that kind of money hence buying one graded a ''A''.

I had 3 authentics in my inventory---they sold well at a lower price and looked better than most 1's or 2's----Nothing wrong with a nice looking authentic grade mayo---good luck, Don

I don't think you need to worry about getting close to your money back out of it if you sell down the road.
