Default Your favorite Babe Ruth card/issue

As I have completed a couple recent single card purchases to fulfill some of my short term collecting goals I have now set my sights on obtaining a Ruth card or two to add to my collection. I thought I would see what some of your opinions are as to desirable cards/issues, or maybe you have a rare or limited issue that you may find especially appealing.

Thoughts???

Personally I like the 1932 Sanella. It's not incredibly pricey/valuable, but it's just gorgeous. Great color, and awesome iconic image. For a "color" Ruth card, I don't think there's a better looking one out there.

Like Scott, the 1921 and 1926-29 (Pose) Exhibits are at the top of my list of favorite Ruth cards. I also like this pose from the W575-1 set, which is also in the E121-80.

Default ruth

I have 4 Ruths I like quite a bit---the 32 sanella and 32 bulgaria so I can have
some foreign 'flair' to my displays; the 34 quaker oats and the 34 butterfinger because i like the poses and being his pal, as he puts it.
all the best,
barry

How can you not consider this beauty?

The Bambino looks like the issue of an unholy union of a Chinese Shar-Pei and a discarded Snuggy.

His W519s look pretty nice for strip cards, but if money's no object, I like the image on all his 1917 issues.

Default My Favorites

You may choose to get one that's not written on, but this one and the E121 Montage are my favorites among the ones I could afford.

The babe has so many great cards... My ideal Ruth card would combine obscurity with a cool unique image. I love the Frederick's photo... Love the buttercream... I like the maple crispette and W502 because it shows his teeth.. Love the rookie pitching pose... I even really like some of the strip cards! Ill post mine when i get home.

I agree this is my favorite that I own.

For fairly common and desirable issues I love the Goudey Red 149 and the 144 as well as the Sport Kings....

For some less common issues, I love this E121, the US Caramel issue and the 1921 Exhibit.

Default vote for 1926-29

The 1926-29 Exhibit Ruth Pose is my vote for "best looking" regardless of value.

Kinda blows my mind how they stay so relatively low in value (ha, if you can find a nice one). Check out the pop figures and you are in rarified air here on PSA 5/SGC 60 and higher. That goes for other 1920's Ruth exhibits in solid mid-grade - way super low pops.

I wouldn't doubt more T206 Wagner's exist vs. the 1926-29 Ruth exhibit.

I bought my Ruth card in the Spring of 1949. And, you can guess what I paid for this great card ?

here is a page Ive been working on slowly, it shows nearly 100 different Ruth cards.... I add a few whenever I get a chance (and faster internet)

http://centuryoldcards.com/1914-35BabeRuthGallery.html
eventually they will all be identified, and I will have all the poses (ie all 4 R319s)

Frank - Your Ruth Gallery looks great! Thanks for sharing.
By the way, my favorite Ruth has to be the only one I own, #53 Goudey.

I've been eying that one for a long time, finally found one for a reasonable price on ebay. Now I just have to wait for it to arrive...

I wouldn't doubt more T206 Wagner's exist vs. the 1926-29 Ruth exhibit.
While I lust over the Baltimore News Ruth, I find its easier to like the tougher ones I have than one I'll most certainly never be able to afford: '23 Lections Ruth and 1931-32 Exhibits [portrait, from the actors/actresses set].

Re the last part of the quote--I'm pretty sure the '23-'24 Exhibit Ruth is rarer than the Wagner, as almost certainly are my two choices, but does anyone else think the '26-'29 Exhibit is tougher than the T206 Wagner?

Best regards,

Larry
