A neighbor of mine gave me these cards today and I wanted to know what they are exactly.

Looks like some sort of game. Any idea of value?

Strat-o-matic here too. I bought SOM from 1968 on to ~1995 or so; only bought APBA one season.

I played Strat-O-Matic religiously in 1964 and 65. Had a league with a schedule, a World Series, the whole nine yards.

In college we used to have marathon APBA leagues. We'd play 100 game schedules with our own all star teams, we'd hold a draft.

In 83 Robin Yount's card had a 6 on 44, way too cool.

There would always be a fight though when somebody would use a late season callup every game, because he had 385 with power, and had a card Babe Ruth was jealous of.

Or even worse, some pitcher would have a killer card, and the guy would bat him clean up, and use him as a pinch hitter all the time.

One guy took the APBA dice square in the face over that once.

We were also required to keep stats, failure to keep stats could result in banishment from the league.

I had two roommates in college - One of my roomies along with me were Strat-o-matic freaks. Our other roommate played APBA...by himself.

One of the coolest things the Strat-o-Matic company ever did was offer personalized player cards. You'd send them your name, position and the vital offensive numbers, along with running ability, bunting ability, etc., and they'd send you a game card based on your info. I sent my stats from my best minor-league season and added myself to the Indians rosters of the late 1980s. Too cool.

I think they stopped offering that service pretty quickly after they started, I'm guessing because it wasn't all that profitable creating one-of-a-kind cards. I think the price was less than $10.

I just found this thread and found it interesting. A couple of years ago I picked up cards for every team for the 1919 season. I thought it would be fun to play some of the games, but I didn't have the rules on how to play. I eventually wrote the APBA Game company in Lancaster, PA and they informed me that for $19.95 they could get me the game without cards. I never did it and now don't have the time to play.

You could probably pick up an older copy of the APBA Baseball boards on EBay for $10-$15, if you're interested.

Some modern APBA sets range up in the hundreds of dollars. APBA went through this period from around 1991 to 1997 or so where everything was extremely short-printed. There was a 1995 season that sold on EBay not too long ago for $150, for example.

At any rate, I still play APBA, and might be interested in purchasing cards that somebody has no use for.
