Default Net54baseball Contest (9/27/17) - Immediate- $37.77

Here will be a fun little contest and we'll see how long it takes to answer. In the current thread on the Sotheby's Copeland sale (great read btw) there is a glaring error. First one to post what it is wins. Good luck to all!!
There is 1 answer that will be obvious when pointed out.
ps....had to add a crazy picture for the heck of it.

**Also, the prize is going to change periodically and whomever guesses correct will win the prize at that time.

Is it the measurement of the Wagner? It's stated as 1 7/16" by 2 5/8", which would be the standard T206 measurement. However, that Wagner was trimmed so it technically shouldn't measure properly.

Well, that is not the glaring mistake looked for. It is more obvious. Thanks for guessing. Also, the prize is going to change periodically and whomever guesses correct will win the prize at that time.

No not that.....I think this is going to be difficult and possibly impossible upon further review. But we will see....

"This included the Wagner, which Copeland bought from Mastro in 1988 for $110,000..."

This happened in 1987, not 1988.

It says that the T206 set has 520 cards, missing only 3 (which were sold individually), when the set actually has 524 cards?

Wagner circa 1910

wouldn't 1909 be more accurate for the 150 series?

You can't get much more circa 1910 than 1909.

Is it the full set of 520 cards missing only the "big 3?' By the time of this auction, the Doyle error I guess was collector knowledge.

Leon, I doubt this is the "glaring error" you are looking for, but the T213 Coupon cards with the "16 for 10 cts." back were issued in 1919, not 1914 as stated by Sotheby's. Do I receive a consolation prize?

How about the T213-2 cobb "a vertical printer's crease is common"? I don't recall seeing many coupons with a vertical crease like the e105s

Leon, I believe I now see the "glaring error." The pics of many of the cards are identified by an incorrect ACC number!

Whoops, my bad! These are lot numbers, not ACC numbers. A perfect example of an old man's brain freeze!

Actually, only a picture of his brother.

None of the answers are correct so far so maybe it isn't that glaring? But it could be chatter fodder when found out.

Not it... and instead of always posting in this thread it will be monitored and updated. If the winner isn't declared the contest is going. And of course if someone guesses the same as someone else the first guess wins.

remember the last hint......

I know the answer, but am waiting for the prize to drop to $0.77.

On the Wagner, the description lists Pittsburgh, but the card is Pittsburg?

is it the comment that states he did not approve of smoking and that is why the cards were pulled? From what i understand, he did not want to have children have to buy tobacco products to get his card.

Pete, can't get into Leon's head. The door is not big enough. (Hi, Leon)

If repeat guesses aren't allowed ignore this, but we're not making much progress even when we know which listing it's about. T206 museum says that there are three Piedmont Wagners, not two? I mean, that's not a glaring mistake, but apparently neither is whatever Leon noticed.

If you are referring to the Gretzky/McNall T206 Honus Wagner, it's always been my understanding that the card measures correctly, Mastro used a knife to cut off the excess sides of an oversized T206 Wagner to greatly improve the condition and to bring it to the same size as a normal T206.
