Default A belated "look what I picked up at the National" thread

I'm filing this a bit late, but I'm a bit excited to share.

I was at the Natty from Thursday until around 2:30 on Sunday. Had a fantastic time, hung around with old friends from OBC and CU and met lots of new faces that I've "known" for years in OBC and on the CU boards. Met Leon at the dinner on Friday night as well.

So I went a little crazy and a lot off course my first day there. Instead of sticking to the plan and whittling down a few sets even further (I did manage to finish two 70s football and two 70s baseball sets while there), I decided to start a new one: 1953 Bowman Color. I've always loved that set - it's really the most beautiful post-war set imo. Got a great deal from a couple of my favorite dealers, scoring a few dozen beaters to get me well on my way.

That, of course, isn't where I went completely crazy. At no time prior to the Natty was I thinking, "I need to own a T-3". Happened by a table that is OBC-friendly (Mike Peich) and got to talking to him a little. Saw his stack of Turkey Reds with a Brooklyn player on top. Made the mistake of picking it up. About three minutes later I was pulling out my wallet. My first T-3!

So now I have a problem. I really like this card. Can't stop looking at it, can't stop showing to everyone I know. So Friday I go back to Mike's table and soon after I had a Dahlen:

I even made plans to go back on Saturday morning and score a SGC 1.5 Jordan, but got there too late. Not to worry. I'll pick up another Brooklyn player at some point, and then another, and then...

In the meantime, I'm really stoked to own a couple of cards from a set I've long admired.

Geordie

Nice cards! Right there with you Geordie. My sole Nat'l pick up. There is nothing more beautiful than a T3.

Nice pick ups on the T-3s. I don't own any yet but I'm sure I'll change that some time in the near future. Fascinating set.

Great cards guys! Any of you guys frame your T3s behind UV glass? Seems like the best to enjoy them. I think someday I'll get one and do that. Don't own any at the moment.

Nice score, Geordie! I was able to get my one and only T3 a few years ago from our very own Craig Diamond and it's a gem to look at.

I think that's the beauty of this hobby...there is always something to grab if you get bored or simply want to add something random to your collection. I collect a handful of sets, but I always seem to pick up something outside of my sets to keep things fresh.

Default A belated "look what I picked up at the National" thread

This was found in a long time collectors raw collection and I was fortunate enough to acquire it. Thanks to Adam G, Pete G, Brian W, Ted and Steve for helping me out.

Unfortunately SGC wouldn't put both players names on the slab.

Geordie,
Great pick ups! I have a few really banged up T-3's as part of my pre war Red Sox and White Sox collection. Absolutely love them.
Also congrats on finishing off a few sets. Nice talking with you, even if it was via phone, at the National.

Default Great T3's

I love the T3's and gave serious thought to purchasing one at the National.

Here is what I picked up for my collection. I didn't see many T213's. I bought the graded card from a nice young lady who was showing a little cleavage. Really. And yes, my wife noticed too.

She did give me a $20 discount and I wasn't showing any of my cleavage. Go figure.

Great card Chris. SGC at least made it interesting by not putting the only name printed on the card (Lake) on the flip. Very cool addition, I am happy you were able to make it work.
