Default 1972 Puerto Rican League Stickers

Does anyone know of any information regarding the origin of this set?

Who made them? Where/how were they distributed?

Thanks in advance!

In 2016 I won a full set of these cards in a charity auction, but don't really know anything about them. My auction win included all 231 cards, with the Santurce AllStar Team (#1-#9), Ponce AllStar Team (#10-#18), and Roberto Clemente (#198-#206) composite photos each in a strip of three uncut cards, and also each of these composite photos in a nine card un-cut sheet. I also have an unused album.

Here is what the Standard Catalog has to say:

Yeah, a checklist is about all I can find on them. It seems like an odd configuration for a set of cards but the inclusion of some retired Negro League players is intriguing.

Default I know a little bit.

I own quite a few and have owned unopened packs of the "cards" in the past. All the Mike Schmidts should have a print dot on the upper part of his nose. There are retired negro league stars in the set I believe all played in the winter leagues back in the day. Cool set with some awesome players in it. The schmidt is of course the key followed by gossage, Paige and Brown, then probably Cepada and Robinson. All the negro leaguers as well as boone, Cey, baker, and a few others have some demand from player of collectors of their major league teams. There was an individual from the Lehigh valley in PA who is said to have brought hundreds of these sets to the USA in the late 70's early 80's. I honestly am not 100% on it being a 1972 and not early 1973 issue but it has been catalogued as 1972 for a long time. If I can think of anything else i will let you guys know. These "cards" or stickers as some call them are extremely thin and on a rather glossy stock. Some guys are often oc and some have common print issues.

Thanks for the info Glyn. I had purchased a Ray Brown from the set off Ebay years back but recently got curious about the origin of the set.

Any idea if there was a companion album they were intended to be placed in?

I've never seen a Schmidt without the print dot

Although when the PSA 10 Schmidt was sold in auction, the print dot had been photo shopped out of the auction scan!

I also have a completed sticker book, which is a fun companion piece.

Really cool album. I remember about a decade ago when a number of unopened packs found their way to the market. Don't really see (m)any of them any longer.
