Wow, historic moment. I thank you for giving me the heads up and letting me witness that moment in the world. $400,000,000 hammer. I hope they don't collect cards!

If I’m not mistaken, Christie’s sold that DaVinci in the 50s for less than $100 (no one verified it as a davinci)

Talk about a return on investment.

Talk about a return on investment.
If so, talk about the ROI..

Sold in 1958 for <$100 (I believe at Sotheby's)
Sold in 2005 for <$10,000 (at a small estate auction house in Louisiana)
*discovers it's an original Da Vinci*
Sold in 2013 for $80,000,000 at private sale
Sold in 2014 for $127,500,000 at private sale
Sold tonight for $450,312,500

Default Christie's Post-War & Contemporary Art Auction is Live ?

Post-war and contemporary art for a Leonardo? Leon, you need to open an new forum section! (Apologies to the OP. I just couldn't resist the Renaissance.)

Isn't this the same painting that the russian owner was gonna sue his broker for ripping him off and charging him too much money for it? And now it sells for 400 million.

Yes, he sued the dealer because the dealer marked it up more than what he was told.

Here is the timeline of the history of the painting:

Finally, a very interesting article by Jerry Saltz, an art critic for New York magazine. Baseball cards are not the only collectible with its share of controversey:

Obviously, opinions as to authenticity of this one have changed over time. Feels like a high stakes game of musical chairs.

Something tells me this isn't just sent via Fed Ex.

Amazing hammer price. Hard to wrap your head around that number. Wow.

And our big items are $2-4M.
