Default Pics of Willie McCovey in an A's Uniform?

Posted By: Dan McHugh IV

Does anyone know of or have any Photos, scans, cards, ANYTHING! of McCovey in an A's Uniform? Or know where to get them? I have searched yahoo,google...etc. trying to find some.In a couple months I'm going to a show to get his auto on his Rookie card but I would also like to get his auto on anything picturing him as an A, being an A's fan I love seeing all the HOFers that you wouldn't normally think of as an A in A's uni's like Cobb,Cepeda,Lajoie,Speaker,Wheat,Kell,Fox,Anson,Pa ige,Dimaggio,Morgan.
I'm always searching Ebay for any type of card picturing any of these players as an A. The only things I have found are a Billy Williams Auto/Jersey, George Kell A's History Card Auto, the only Cobb as an A that I've seen is the 33' Sportkings and US Caramel Cards and thats it.
Any help is greatly appreciated,
Dan

I have exactly the same question for Dick Allen. Have any of you seen any pictures of him out there in an A's uniform?

By the way, George Kell is shown in an A's uniform in a 1945 A's team issue photo. Nellie Fox is in a 1949 A's team issue photo. And I'm pretty sure that Billy Williams is in an A's uniform on his 1976 Topps card and probably an SSPC card too.

I would try the National Baseball Hall of Fame Library. Although their prices are not cheap, they have a treasure trove of material that probably contains dozens of pictures in an A's uniform that you likely never saw before. I would contact them first

If anyone has this photo its George Brace. he would take photos of anyone who would come into Wrigley or Comiskey especially if they changed uniforms. And his prices I believe are better than the HOF

Default Pics of Willie McCovey in an A's Uniform?

Posted By: Silver King

Dan,

If you don't mind poor quality I will look through my personal photographs. I used to go to a lot of the A's games as a kid and when I was about 10 years old I caught Willie McCovey's foul ball and got him to sign the ball after the game. When McCovey was signing the ball he told me that I made a nice catch and deserved the standing ovation that I got from the crowd (for having my glove on and catching the ball on the fly). McCovey instantly became my favorite player and I know I took some pictures of him in uniform and in street clothes at the Collesium. I haven't looked for the pictures for about 20 years but I'm sure they are in a box somewhere. Note: I have never caught another foul ball but having Willie McCovey's autograph on an American League ball is priceless for me. I've always wanted to meet McCovey and tell him thanks for not only signing the ball after the game, but taking a few minutes to talk to me about my catch.

Silverking- I would love to see it

Leon- Sorry, I didn't think that it would be wrong to post here. I think of this as a Vinatge forum and McCovey to me is vintage, I really didn't realize it was pre-WWII,
Sorry,
Dan

It's ok and is very good thread....however, are you aware of the other forum where it says "Net54 Postwar Sportscards" at the top of this page? That is really where post-WWII stuff goes.....no harm though...it's all good....I would just like to keep stuff tidy if we can....best regards

You would need to call the Hall of Fame...it is not an online store that they have...but a service that they offer to impassioned collectors. If you define the parameters, they can do a search and get some stuff for you.

Default Pics of Willie McCovey in an A's Uniform?

Posted By: Dave Weisner

Yesterday, our local newspaper - the San Jose Mercury News, ran an
article about Giants legends that were traded at the end of their
careers. It had pictures of McCovey as an A, Mays as a Met and Marichal
as a (gulp) Dodger. The article is online at:

http://www.mercurynews.com/search/ci_6925424?IADID=Search-www.mercurynews.com-www.mercurynews.com

There are no pictures in the online article, but maybe you could contact the
writer. I also have a copy I could send you. The picture of McCovey is only
about 2 1/2 x 3 inches and shows him signing an autograph in his A's uniform.

Dave Weisner, that was one neat article about departing Giant HOFers. Thank you for posting that!

The article speaks of 5 Giants whose numbers were retired. I'd have added Giant great Christy Mathewson to that list, even though no number was retired for him. Matty pitched his last game in 1916, wearing the uniform of the Cincinnati Redlegs.

I always thought Bob Hoerner, Will Clark, and Dan Driessen looked odd in my Cardinal's uniforms. Spahn seemed odd as a Giant... The Babe would have been the most unusual, with the Boston Braves.

I should have mentioned Roger Maris and his 2 years with the bat and birds on his chest... I thought he looked good in red. His 67 Topps card with hat askew looked odd. It seemed to me Roger was glad to get out of New York, and enjoyed 2 world series checks while in St. Louis, then a beer distributorship upon retirement.

But I'm sure Roger looked like a traitor to Yankee fans.
