There is an N284 similar to this shown in Lipsets encyclopedia - page 43 (of the original), Figure 5. While it is a different player, it also has this printing on either side (probably on the sides as opposed to top/bottom because it is a horizontal pose).

Lipset also refers to Subset C within the set, and that "a large percentage of the blank back cards will be found to be in subset C, as are most of the cards taht are found with thick black advertising on the front."

This implies to me that there are multiple others known with this printing. I would hypothosize that they were cut from some kind of advertising/sample sheet or poster.

I was a little confused when I first saw this card. I was under the impression that cards that were cut from advertising sheets were blank backed or showed what was on the back of the advertising sheet (like the reverse on cutouts from A36 Goodwin albums). This one however, has the same text on the back as all of the normal Buchner Gold Coin cards that I've seen.

Hi Scott -

This card was cut from an advertising sheet. The backs are complete on the Buchner advertising sheets. In fact we have a sheet minus 3 cards that is cut up but reassembled to show the complete advertisement.

out of a vintage album with the advertising on the top and the bottom including a Kelly--not this one. I recently sold them to Ron Vitro/E&R galleries. Most were commons but the Kelly was exactly like the graded one although cut a little closer on all sides. The backs had the normal captions printed on them. The sheet that Tik has was different than the ones I had--at least the printing was different. The letters were thinner and different type font, so there must be at least 2 different ones.
