Default Uniform Help

I won the pictured uniform at the Hunt Auctions in Louisville last weekend. I collect Louisville Colonels stuff and in my zeal to pick up a uniform that I hadn't seen, I didn't do due diligence on looking at it closer. The tagging is from a Brown's Sporting Goods in Toronto, Canada. After the fact, I kind of found that a little odd. They had a companion 'Louisville' uniform as well with a Louisville sporting goods company on it.

There was a Louisville Black Colonels Independent Negro League(ish) team in Louisville in the 1940's/1950's as well. I'm just really trying to figure out if I got a REAL Louisville Colonels (Red Sox Farm Team) or a Colonels town team type of uniform.

Google image searches don't turn up any photos of similar graphics on the uniforms but the images are scarce to begin with. The uniforms walked in to the Louisville Slugger Museum and were added to the auction. The Hunt's Auction description is noted below.

Anywhere I could do more research on this uniform? Would be very appreciative of any help. It's a heavy flannel uniform, yellow piping with brown lettering and in very nice condition. Will try to post follow-up pictures of the tagging. I have 4-5 Colonels uniforms and these are the first with tagging attributed to this sporting goods store in Canada.

Hunt's Auction Description
Description: Louisville Colonels baseball uniform c.1930-40s. Cream color flannel jersey and pants retaining “Brown’s Sporting Goods” tagging. Jersey retains original “Colonels” team name across the front with #6 on the reverse. Outstanding original condition with expected light to moderate use: EX
Estimated Price Range: ($500-$1,000)

A lot of the annual Spalding baseball guides will have the team photo. You can probably check eBay for images. There are a few sellers the clip the team photos out of the Spalding books and sell them individually. I did this to build up a year by year photo archive of St. Paul Saints uniform styles for that rare occasion when a Saints uniform turns up on the market.

Good luck!

Chris

From 1937 to 1942 there was a Rome Colonels team out of Rome, NY which played in the Canadian American League. It was at one time part of the Phillies organization

You might find a picture by contacting the Canada BHOF

There's a couple of 1948 Rome Colonel pictures here for comparison. The C is different, but I am no expert.
