Default T206 Education request

Long time collector here who has never dabbled in the T206 world and am just starting to dip my toe.

I'm sure this has been talked about in the past but can someone please educate me and provide a quick list of backs from most common to most scarce.

Also, are some factory numbers more scarce than others?

I appreciate your time.

-Joe

Joe --

A good place to start is T206resource.com, which has all the information you could want to know about T206, and more. The amount of information there can be overwhelming, especially for a beginner, so it's best to start on the index page there:

http://t206resource.com/History.html

You can start on the "Introduction" page and then keep clicking "Next" to go through the pages.

You'll also want to go to the "Publications" page:

http://t206resource.com/Publications.html

There you can download pdf versions of three booklets that serve as good general introductions to T206: Art Martineau and Doug Allen's (unpublished) "T206: The First Century", Mark Peavey's "The Mysteries of T206", and Scot Reader's "Inside T206". Peavey and Reader are Net54 members, and Doug Allen used to be a member but is in jail now.

The "Articles" page on T206Resource.com has lots of good articles on various aspects of the set. Most of them are for people who already know the basics, but there are some more basic introductions.

The articles linked to on that page have great information on the relative scarcity of the different backs, but the values for the different back brands given in the table should be taken with a grain of salt. In my experience, the values given there for many of the tougher backs are too low -- prices have really risen fast in recent years.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. Overwhelming to say the least. I'll start reading the links as soon as I return from the store with a pack of red bulls.

Why can't everyone be this excited about OJs? Then again, if there were more collectors the prices would be higher......everyone stay away from OJs they are not worth your time .

I'm working on a T206 Cincinnati team set. I'm more of a type collector so tackling the monster is not very appealing. I do have friends on here that have a love/hate relationship with the set. Have fun and remember to buy what YOU like, it will make the journey that much more rewarding!!

I noticed that there aren't any/many 'sticky' posts here at net54. I assume the Archive Center meant to to accomplish the same result.

Is there a process to nominate threads to the archive center? I think this one may be worthy (along with the Monster Number thread and a few others), or may already be there http://www.net54baseball.com/showthr...d=1#post866437.

Search is always an option, but hey I'm lazy. Err, I mean a location for important/reference material threads is more efficient and may reach more people.

Steven, if they were cheaper I'd totally be into them! I just only want to own a Dick Buckley because of the last name, other than that they're too pricey for me.

Yes lol I'm pretty sure he has a couple poses. But then again I'm not overly familiar with Old Judge.

I tried making a checklist of it and felt as though it was nearly impossible to do so.

Because OJs don't have backs. All the advertising and pose differences are on the front, how boring is that.

Joe, it's about four decades old now (I don't have mine in front of me to check the exact first run date; I think it was 1980), but The Sport Americana T206 The Monster, by Bill Heitman, is still an excellent resource for collectors of the set, in addition to the publications already listed. The checklist has, obviously, been updated a bit since it was published, but it's still a great reference as far as breaking down the print runs, and back availability for each card. You can find one for about $15-20 on EBay.

If there's anything I can help you with as you become familiar with the set, please feel free to send me a private message. I check this place a few times a day.

Have fun collecting!

I just came across this article while searching for something else. It's worth a read if you are still getting familiar with t206 backs.
