He only got to first base with her, because he didn't try for home runs.

I'm surprised to see the Clemente RCs in PSA 8 currently sitting at about 15k and 20k higher than the 14 CJ Cobb also in a PSA 8. Am I the only one who thought that the Cobb was a much tougher and more valuable card in that grade, or any grade?

It doesn't matter, the new money is chasing Clemente not CJs. If the CJ is real, then of course it blows away the Clemente, but welcome to Wall Street.

Im assuming it's real. It would look pretty bad if PSA were to grade a fake 14 CJ an 8 and it ended up in a mile high auction.

I thought it was nuts when PSA 8s of the Clemente RC had recently boomed to the $33K range. Now we see two examples in Mile High sitting at $48K and $53K. I wonder if a similar uptick will be seen in PSA 7 examples. $12K+ might become the new norm for that card in NM condition.

Real as in unaltered. Or do you just accept on faith that all high grade cards in slabs are unaltered?

I think at least some of the trickle down effect is inevitable, as people get priced out of 8s it increases demand for 7s, and so on.

Im sure there are high grade vintage cards in PSA holders that have alterations that were not detected. Hard to know for sure now but the fact that it's in the holder seems to be enough for the collectors and investors bidding on these types of cards.

Yes, absolutely, the flip and holder sanitize it. From the Wagner on down. The flip is its own commodity. So it goes.

With the premium those are at almost 60k and 65k. An 80% discount to move down one grade sounds like a bargain to me.

Look at the middle picture of Ruth and enlarge it. There are at least 5 VISIBLE touch ups between his ear and his hand, along the bat. There's also one above the GG Co at the bottom left. Be careful out there.

Did anyone notice the Clemente at Heritage? Over 80k for a PSA 8. I thought 60k was getting a little crazy for that card.

I agree with Bill. Sometimes humor is OK and other times a little bit of ethics and decency are in order. For you guys that honestly believe that about Clemente, please..... For Ullman, you never cease to amaze me. I know you miss your buddy, but you really are clueless....

This pretty much sums up the state of the industry and once I came to this realization, I pretty much quit buying "investment cards".

I may have underestimated the NM level.

PSA 7 ends at $25,100!

What about the '52 Mays PSA9 at 200K!

I don't recall Willie ever getting that kind of respect - within the hobby I mean.

I wonder if Puerto Rico defaulting on their due bond's interest payment today is a possible factor driving the highly inflated bidding on high grade Clemente RC's. CNBC has reported an unfounded rumor the their treasury has been funding the Clemente card's wild run-up in a quiet attempt to repatriate as many of them as possible back to his birthplace in an effort to calm roiling financial markets. It is apparently felt that the infusion of such high grade assets will somehow support the integrity of their gov't bonds.
Sandy Koufax could not be reached for comment.
