Default The Current poll is very interesting

Whoever came up with it, good job. At present, over 200 people have responded with 40 stating that price is their motivating factor in buying a card.

I don't know how many of you answered the poll honestly, but I really had to think about it for a while before honestly answering that the biggest factor in my purchase decisions nowadays is price. There are precious few cards I can say that I will top all bids on, and there are a lot of cards I regularly bid on that I go after only because the price is right. What it means that for about 1/5 of us the financial end of things is the biggest factor in collecting is not clear to me, but there you have it.

It was a tough question to answer because I find myself fitting in more than one category. But overall I would have to say the leading factor when buying a card is wether or not I am interested in the set. I would love to buy the card for a great price but I would rather finish a set.

I will pay anything for a card that I really really want. That is my sole motivation...does it fit my collection?

I picked scarcity because that's what I like to collect....things that are scarce.....and "type" cards of course....

I answered price, mainly because of budget limitations. If I didn't have that constraint, the answer would be scarcity. If I had the money and was given a choice between an overpriced rarity and cheap Ruth or similar HOFer, I'd opt for the rarity.

I like to sit outside, drink beer and yell at people. If I did this at home, I would be arrested. So, I go to baseball games and fit right in.

I like to collect cards that not everyone has. There are obviously several other factors that come into play before I make a purchase, but that is probably the most important factor.

Thanks Adam,

While admittedly I'm sometimes late in posting new polls, I at least try to keep them interesting and not always the garden variety "favorite set...favorite player...blah" sort. I guess I like the ones that make you think a little bit.

In my poll last month about adding a 6th HOFer to the inaugural class, I was really interested in seeing how many board members would vote for Shoeless Joe. Too bad Cy Young made that one sort of boring by getting about 200 more votes than the second place finisher (which was Jackson)....

I am so passionate about chasing the cards I like (i.e. Cincinnati Reds pre-war cards) that I rarely even pay attention to the price. Sometimes I over pay (OK most of the time) but when I am trying to fill a gap in my collection I just go after the card. I like to think of my self as a TRUE team collector (that way I don't see myself for what I really am, a sucker).

Tom
