Default Graded miscuts + Population reports

Posted By: Judge Dred (Fred)

The following is obviously the same card encapsulated by two different companies.

The card was first in a GAI4 holder. This card was purchased on ebay a while back from a big West Coast dealer.

The same card is in an SGC60 holder which (IMO) increases the value because it's SGC and also (obviously) because of the higher grade. I know when I saw this card recently in an auction that I saw it before but I just couldn't remember where. I was going through a few folders of OJ pictures and it all came together.

This comparison goes to show that the grading companies will grade miscut cards and although the difference is only one grade it's a big difference in value, especially because of the subject on the card. NIce image on the card regardless of the cut.

This would also go towards showing how population reports can be misleading. This card isn't so common so if someone counts all encapsulated cards by the big three (PSA, SGC and GAI) then the shift of just one card could really screw up the data when trying to get an idea of how many have been graded by all three companies.

The bump in grade and the crossover to SGC should net the seller a very nice profit. Was the SGC card in a recent auction?
