Default Old Mill Brown back?

Posted By: Paul P

I ran across a Southern Leaguer with an Old Mill back. it is a Factory 25 2nd district VA. Maybe it is me hopeing against hope but it looks as if it has a brown back which is supposed to be very rare. I put a scan on so those of you with better eyes than I could tell me if it is or is not. Thanks a lot Paul

Hi Paul,
It's not easy to see on the scan, but I am 99.9% sure it's not. I'm really 100% sure, but don't want to be that certain without holding it.

Be well Brian

If you got lucky, so did I, twice. These are recent purchases - July and October this year. Total price was $88.

There is no doubt that they are a different ink mix than the normal "black", but they are not brown Old Mills. I bought a "find" of about 50 Old Mill backs a few years ago, and there were 2 of the brownish ones. Since then I've seen a "real" brown one and they are as distinguishable as comparing a brown Hindu to a black Old Mill.

Can someone post a side by side comparison scan of the two varieties?

Hi Gary
My scan is way to large to post on the board, so I have sent it to you direct. Be well Brian
