His BPs are awesome! I was able to catch a few during interleague games, then was in my normal right field arcade seats for the 2007 All Star game. I made sure to watch all of BP. He would get in these little streaks and 4-5 in a row.. not Canseco or Bonds like.. but all absolutely roped dead pull lasers. His inside the park HR in that game smacked off the brick facing below my seat and is still the only MLB inside the park HR I've seen in person.

I was a huge Ichiro fan for his first decade or so with the Mariners. His exploits in 2001 - when he .445 with runners in scoring position - were incredible. That said, his last couple years soured me a bit on him. His effort dropped, his numbers dropped, and so on. He was always a numbers guy - as evidenced by his unwillingness to even try to hit for power despite his legendary BP displays - and was hated by his teammates and was bashed multiple times for being a "me first" guy.

All that said, I've loved watching him as a player. He truly was a joy to watch while in Seattle. But this "4000 hits" thing is nonsense. For crying out loud, they don't even use the same baseball in Japan as they do here.

If he does hit 3000 hits in the states game, it would put him in quite the category, reached only by about 0.15% of those who played in the majors. First balloter.

+1, I hope he makes it, and I think he will.

He does not have 4000 hits in major league baseball he has like 2700 hits and the rest where in japan so a third of his hits where in AAA basically. i'm not taking anything away from this land mark but he truly doesnt have 4000 hits in major league baseball.
