Default Opinions on ebay item return

ebay has pre-requirements you can set up for buyers, so many policy violations and so forth.

I had a person call a friend of mine to get ahold of me cause he wanted to buy something off of my store. He was being blocked by the buyer settings I have in place.

I talked to him on the phone and he explained the past problems so I turned off my settings on an SGC graded card.

He purchased immediately and I shipped.

About a week later he wants to return the card, I usually always take returns but I was a little upset that I jumped through hoops to let him buy from me.

He then stated that he lost his job so I immediately said ok send it back.

It just makes me wonder since the pre checks stopped him, if this is a pattern of his and maybe I should have refused the return?

I like to try to give the benefit of doubt

Transaction is over as I already gave my word that he could return the item and I sent a cancelation notice to him so he won't get a non paying bidder strike.

I would just like to get some opinions from fellow board members, what would you have done in my position as a seller?

thanks
Dan

Default could be

From what you just said Dan, it could be the truth he was telling, and you did the right thing. I have bent over backwards many times and had the situation boomerang on me. I almost always take the high road, let it go, and move on. Next time you deal with this person my guess is it will be a bit of a different conversation, that is all. take care

ps....if he is active in the hobby you might PM a few folks (me too) with his name to see if this is a regular pattern of his??

That is a tough one Dan. I try to always make the buyer happy....but on the other hand after you jump through hoops like that is it frustrating. I guess in the event someone came back to me with a "I lost my job" explanation I'd take the item back and just keep it in the back of my memory not to deal with the again as it may not be worth the headache.

But you also provide pretty good scans on ebay...so I'd be a little more irrirated if someone didn't have a good reason to return something.

If he truly lost his job I wouldn't sweat it.

Honestly, i would have made him keep it. It sounds like a simple case of buyer's remorse and this clown used the struggling economy as a way to get his money back. How convenient that he lost his job! If he was a standup guy and that really happened he would have simply sold the card himself on ebay or somewhere else. Sounds like you are a good dealer and unfortunately this guy took advantage of that.

How much was the card? The reason for asking is if you sold him a $50 card, is that going to help that much if he truly did lose his job?

Dan- why did you originally put him on your blocked bidder list? Does it relate at all to why he returned this card?

Default JoeyF

JoeyF aka italianz31 did the same thing to me over a sale. His excuse was his grandmother had died and his girlfriend was pregnant. Prior to being banned on the PSA board he pulled the same thing on another member. JoeyF and his alts Sam1952, Joey, Mantlefan81, jboog are trouble.

And the plot thickens. There have actually been some alleged harmful threats made by this person too, to another board member....which are right now, being looked into. Not good....

I just had a long talk with JoeyF on the phone. Did you post this guys contact info on the PSA board? He is saying that ALL is good right now between ya'll, is this true? According to Joey, you are the issue and have been harassing him? Joey admits to the different ID's on different venues but is NOT Sam1952, which is my biggest issue right now. SAM1952 and I need to have a conversation.

According to JoeyF, he has had some issues, made some mistakes, but never has scammed or ripped anyone off or made any threats....which are all big issues in my book, if they were done.

Default yikes

Yikes, Dan just sent me a PM of who this is. It is a fairly new board member that I have been scratching my head over anyway. Not sure what I can say but this is not unexpected given what I have seen. And I just received another message that is not looking good for this person, at all. After I investigate a bit more I will have some more updates....This is NOT an isolated incident.

Yes Dan...it is ALWAYS good to post these issues. Many times, as we have all seen, these people mean well but get into hot water and then everything falls apart for them. Multiple returns, crazy excuses etc...etc.... They just can't help themselves and then it unravels because they have been outed, as you are doing. As I say, I will do a bit more detective work and then make a decision on membership etc....certainly this person's BST privileges, at a minimum, are in jeopardy. This is the not-so-fun side of our hobby/addiction. best regards

Thanks for giving everyone a heads up Dan!

Is he the guy that always posted threads asking how much an item should go for?

Not sure if that is him but he has a recent post from yesterday asking about dealing with B&E. Should be about 10 threads down from this one, Dan.
