Default Meet and Greet- welcome to Net54baseball

I figure it's about time for a meet and greet thread. With these, almost every time, they help someone out for some reason or another. Especially because you can see what folks interests are, where they are from, and so forth. Also, as previously stated, we have a lot of new members so it's nice to let them share some details if they would like to. In true moderator fashion I will go first. I will put out a small list for info but anyone can put anything they want to. best regards

1. Name- Leon Luckey

5. Collecting interest- mainly a 20th century type collector, pre-1950 (no kidding)

1. Name- Martin Dalziel

2. Age- 51

3. Day job- GM for a Retail Point Of Sale and Management Systems company serving the restaurant, cinema, convenience and general retail industries.

4. Location- Metro Atlanta, GA

5. Collecting interest- All across the board, though pretty inactive now - T3 on the card side and bats on the memorabilia side were always a focus. I still have a soft spot for mini bats.

6. Family- Donna, my wife of 27 years and our two boys, Raymond and Jamie (dec 'd.)

7. How long in hobby? 25 years

8. Other interests - collector of all manner of things; too many things really but anything different, cool and evocative of an era is fair game. Uncommon vinyl 45's in particular, vinyl records in general (soul, garage, psych, rockabilly, country gospel, reggae/rocksteady, folk, ssw, etc.), Southern Pottery, Folk Art, NM religious art. Folk Art is a shared love for Donna and me so we do a lot of auctions, estate sales, garage and fleas, etc. together.

9. Do you attend shows? I don't. Atlanta is somewhat a wasteland for shows, though there is actually one tomorrow. I won't be there as I'm off to an estate auction .

5. Collecting interests-pre-war(mostly HOF and Cleveland players), also modern HOF rookies and potentially HOF rookies(the 'roiders are making this tough), topps complete sets(standard and traded only), autos, 1938 Churchman Boxing and 1956 Topps football.

6. Family- Wife that I've been with for almost 10 years, 6 and 7 year old sons, 2 year old daughter, 8 yr old American Bulldog, and the kids' a**hole puppy..

7. How long in hobby-Originally from '86-94. Started back up around 6 years ago..

8. Other interests/hobbies-Music(I used to have a band, but just don't have the time anymore), backyard wrestling(yes, I'm one of those idiots, and my old HS and college coaches would probably be ashamed of me now because of this). Sci-fi and horror movies/tv shows.. Cigarettes, coffee, and the family.

9. Do you attend shows? Not very often...There's one big vintage show in Strongsville that I like to get to every year, and will occasionally stumble into one of those crappy mall shows by accident. Wow, are those things just a complete and total embarrassment to the hobby nowadays...

***I'm gonna add this one***
10. Favorite item in collection- April 7, 1869 Chicago Tribune, with a nice long article and team breakdowns of the upcoming 1869 NABBP season's professional teams. Basically 1869 was the first year that the NABBP added the professional division, which is often considered the first professional sports league. I would however like to find the April 3, 1869 New York Tribune with the first printing of the article as well.

1. Name- Tom Laubinger

2. Age- 33

3. Day job- Currently unemployed Residential Electrician

4. Location- Pell Lake, WI About halfway between Milwaukee, WI and Chicago, IL. A bit closer to Milwaukee, but not much in terms of mileage, just driving time.

5. Collecting interest- I have several. I'm a set builder, but have dumped nearly all of my post 1980 stuff recently. Still trying to unload a bunch of it. There's just too much to keep up with. So now, it's all Topps regular issue sets from 1952-1979. I have recently begun collecting Cubs, all Topps regular issue from 1952-current, and any and all pre 1952 that I can afford. I have a very strong interest in the T205, T206, Goudey, Diamond Stars, and others. I just can not afford to collect complete sets of these older cards, so I'm sticking with lower grade Cubs. I'm not in this for an investment of any kind, just my love of the Cubs, and baseball cards.

6. Family- Girlfriend of 12 years, and her two wonderful daughters 13 & 15. They're both beautiful girls too, so their father and myself have our hands full with their boyfriends. By the way he and I get along great, it started out as having to get along for the kids, but we have developed quite a good friendship. It gets awkward at family functions, but we don't let it bother us much. We hang out all the time.

7. How long in hobby- I got back into collecting strong in 1998 when I was 21. I collected as a kid, but sold all my cards when I was 17 to put gas in my car to take my girlfriend out on a Saturday night. I have always had an interest in the pre war stuff, but did not actively begin pursuing it until this past year. I don't have many, but as money allows I will be buying pre war Cubs like crazy in the future. I love them, they are the neatest cards there ever was.

8. Other interests- Too many to list, but genuine American muscle cars is one, music is another. Mostly rock and hard rock, but pretty much anything but country, pop, hip hop and rap I love. And there's even some songs from those genres that I like.

9. Do you attend shows? I haven't been to a card show in years. I really miss the local shows and shops that used to be everywhere. I would love to attend a National sometime, but it always seems there's not enough money to even bother going when they come around.

6. Family- wife of 26 excellent years...16 year old son who is a very promising baseball player, 12 year old daughter who is a fine young singer, 3 year old Redbone hound that eats Christmas ornaments

7. How long in hobby- Since I was six...took breaks but never really stopped

8. Other interests- love my job and Marshall University

9. Do you attend shows? Chantilly, Moeller Thanksgiving and once in a great while the National. I have a background of show promotion, doing more than 30...considering doing another to benefit my son's baseball team. I am a long-time friend of Marco Rol with Collector's Showcase.

I've posted about myself on a couple of threads in the past, but I like this kind of thing, so I'll go along with this one too.

1. Name- David Kathman

2. Age- 49

3. Day job- Mutual fund analyst. Basically, I talk to a lot of money managers, crunch some numbers, and write about mutual funds and investing, trying to make it all understandable for ordinary people.

4. Location- Chicago, Illinois

5. Collecting interest- Very eclectic, including some of just about everything. Pre-war sets I have at least 50 of include T206 (300+, with many tough backs), T205, T212, T210, and N172, plus some of just about every T and E card set except a few of the real toughies. Also representative samples of most major sets from 1920 on, and Topps sets or near-sets from 1967-1991. I also collect non-sport tobacco cards, including several non-sport T-card sets and a pretty good type collection (N and T cards), plus advertising trade cards from the late 1800s, of which I have around 5,000 (17 albums worth).

6. Family- Not married, but I have a girlfriend with a 7 year old daughter. Parents, two brothers, two sisters, all with spouses and kids (8 nieces and nephews).

7. How long in hobby- Started in 1975, the year I became interested in baseball, when I collected the Topps MVP subset because I liked the pictures of old cards. Started more seriously the following year, when I went to my first card shop and paid $2.95 to a mail-order dealer to get one card from each Topps set from 1952 through 1975. Took a break from 1983 to 1991, then got back in and have never been totally back out, though there were some stretches of several years when I wasn't actively collecting much.

8. Other interests- Shakespeare and Elizabethan theater history (I've published many scholarly papers and go to the Shakespeare Association of America meeting every year); medieval history (I go to the International Medieval Congress in Kalamazoo every year and sometimes give a paper there); theater (I go to many, many plays and used to perform improv comedy); the U.S. Supreme Court; popular culture of the 20th century (especially popular music); politics; and lots of other stuff. I have over 5,000 books.

9. Do you attend shows? This year's National was the first card show I had been to in many years, and it was a lot of fun. I went to numerous card shows in the early 80s and then again in the early-to-mid-90s, but after that other things got in the way, and then eBay came along.
