Default "http://www.superiorsports.com" will be closing AT THE NATIONAL..

Posted By: julie

In addition to the live bidding going on at the National, they will have 50 phones set up there, and will call anyone who has asked to be called (don't need to have bid $3000) when the card , item or items you have bid on comes up. The lots will be tackled one-at-a-time. If the action is hot and heavy, an auctioneer will be there, saying "Going once, going twice" etc. If you call them before the National and ask, they will give you an approximate time when your item will come up. You MUST be at the phone the number which you've given them.

The Boss (sorry, I've forgotten your name) told me they learned this kind of auctioneeering from their coin and stamp divisions, who have been using it for years.

Barry Sloate (closes July 17) says the auctioneers are very good at picking up the signals from the phone manners (I believe you get to MONOPOLIZE a phone for the duration of the bidding on your item!), but, says Barry, it's complicated enough so that a lot of people will get wrong info, make mistakes, and be disappointed. He does say he himself has participated in just such an auction, successfully.

A quick note for anyone that hasn't participated in Barry Sloate auctions before:

Bid with confidence. Not only is his selection of collectibles practically unmatched - his phone manner and personality are the best.

And he doesn't ship cards in envelopes! (if you don't get this - see the "Jeff's Junk" thread)
