Default Real Baseball: World Series

Holy crap what a game! I hope everyone here who stayed up for REA when they would normally have been in bed took advantage of the late night to watch one of the best World Series games of all time.

I'm sad that the Dodgers lost this game. Great game though.

Absolutely unbelievable baseball game! I can't remember seeing as much back and forth in a series game ever... and this comes after that crazy game 2.

Seeing all the young talent this season makes me confident that baseball is alive and well. Hopefully Fox and MLB wake up next year, and pull the LCS off FS1 so that more people get on board.

And Game 2 was supposed to be the epitome.

I played hockey tonight, so I didn't expect it would still be on. When I got into the car and heard it was still going, I burned home. Didn't see the whole thing unfortunately, but got caught up in the excitement at the end. Been a helluva series so far.

I made it till midnight. Baseball has it's best game in years and the ratings will be abysmal at the end. Terrible. Doubt many children were up to see that one. 1:17 am EST. Lovely.

Unreal. I really didn't think I would ever see a more entertaining series than last year, but this has been outstanding. I was a little queasy at the post game celebration, though. HOU is 2-5 on the road in the postseason, so this thing is far from over. It's all gonna come down to which team's bullpen can keep their wheels from falling off first.

East coaster here. Actually at 1:17 am, the Dodgers were batting in the top of the 10th. After seeing the Dodgers leading 7-4 (disappointed), I went back and forth between PWCC and REA. After the auctions ended, I went back to the game figuring that LA had won it. Was shocked to see it 12-12 and HAD to follow it to the end. What a game, I actually felt bad for the losing team!

It was the second highest rated World Series game 5 since 2003, only behind last year. It also had 32% more viewers than football, despite having the Steelers on. That is pretty impressive.

Default Game 5 World Series

Booked it home after my softball game and wasn't disappointed. I'm a huge 'Stros fan and watched as Devo gave up three runs in the 9th (including the guy throwing back the Puig home run ball). Was thrilled to see my boy Derek Fisher getting the game winning run in extras!

Best. Game. Ever!

Great managing. McCann would have been dead meat at the plate.

Love the Gehringer cabinet, BTW! Thanks again!

I'd be curious how many were watching at midnight East Coast time.

I sure as hell was watching, had ZERO faith in the Stros closing out L A in the top of the 9`th. Too bad so few young fans most likely missed out though.

I fell asleep in the '75 Series and the 2001 Series, baseball going late will never change. It does suck, but oh well. Miss one there will always be another one that's the greatest ever.

But the idiot manager for the Dodgers will look back on pulling Wood who left after giving up ONLY 1 hit in 5-2/3 innings the night before, bringing his bullpen in waaaaay too early. Then they are all gassed for game 5, just a Stooge.

i passed out with the score 8-7 i believe...and REA was in its final stages.

I woke up and the first thing i checked was REA...then the final score. I was shocked on both counts!!!!

I watched it here on the East coast, the whole thing. My kids watched the first 2 innings. My wife made it through 9. But the Astros are our team, so after many lean years it's worth the sleep deprivation.

Obviously it's far from a sure thing being up 3 games to 2 now, but the home/road thing is the least of my concerns. The Astros were better on the road than they were at home all year. How they performed in a handful of playoff games over the past couple of weeks is less informative.

Have you all been reading about the supposedly mysteriously slick baseballs they're using?

If these games don't get really great 'ratings', then there are a whole lot of really stupid people out there...something I already suspected.

Something's off, for sure. One of the announcers said last night that something like 2/3 of the runs scored in the series have been via HR.

There are people who need to be up at the crack of dawn to go to a job. Or to school. Not really conducive to staying up to 1 am on a Monday morning.

Steve- I can definitely relate to that: I was stuck at an out-of-town Retail Management Convention in October of 1991 - and the meetings went on 'til 9PM EVERY F**KING NIGHT!

-So, you KNOW what I missed!

But I'm retired now and don't value jobs that much anymore...the World Series is MUCH more important! LOL IMO LOL

Not only have the games been some of the best I have seen but I think it is important to call attention to the way Darvish and Roberts responded to Gurriel's gesture during game 3. The two guys could not have showed more class. One of these teams will win the series but humanity is the real winner.

There are too many home runs being hit in the game today. So far the two teams have had a seven HR game and an eight HR game out of the five they've played. The five HR's hit in extra innings in game 2 was a first in the history of the game, including regular season. Players hit what appear to be lazy fly balls that carry out of the park. There needs to be a little more action on the field.

And the games have to start earlier. First pitch at 8:20 Eastern time is simply too late. I never see the end of any of them. It's been an exciting series but kids are going to be tuning out baseball if MLB doesn't smarten up.

Awesome and exciting game last night; so many lead changes - quite the contrast from the pitcher's duel of Game 1.

I was texting with my son while watching the game - he's a freshman off at college - and suddenly I noticed that he stopped texting back. This morning he texts that he fell asleep and missed the end.

Guess the old man can still hang with the young boys

I don't see any of the baseball players kneeling before the game. People are really getting tired of the NFL and the players. And all the penalty flags, I can hardly watch it anymore. Thursday Nite FB ? Football in London on Sunday Morning ? Why ? Who watches these games ? The home team and fans lose a home game, doesn't make sense to me.

Start time for game 6 is 5pm Arizona time - Halloween! If you’re trying to get kids (or parents of young kids) to watch the games, this isn’t the way.

Has to go 7. Been such a great Series. Is actually easier to enjoy it when its not your team on the hook.

The depressing thing for me is watching these 2 teams battle and realizing how much work the Mets need to do to be competitive. Can't pull guys out of the dumpster and compete on this level. Sigh.

I would think they get great ratings, but what the ratings don't take into account is the fact that while the TV may be tuned to Fox, the person watching it is sleeping.

Me, I only slept for a few innings earlier in the game. I was glad that I made all of innings 6+. Just wish the networks wouldn't make it so hard

Good pitching beats good hitting. The Astros staff was able to keep the Dodgers hitters in the park tonight. So many times, the Dodgers were one swing from being back in the game, but the Astros made the pitch to get out of the inning.

Congrats to the Astros! First WS win for Houston dating back to when they were the Colts 45. 15 dingers in the series is a WS record. Great chemistry on the team and what a group effort.

Congrats to the Astros and Houstonians. I knew they were good, knew about guys Altuve, Correia but had no idea how deep their lineup was beyond that until seeing them up close this post season. 1-9 they can do damage. Bregman may be my new favorite player, that guy is just a ballplayer... he did plenty of damage with the bat, but I loved his guts in the field, especially those throws home. If they can keep that core together, they should be good for a while.

If they can keep that core together, they should be good for a while.
That throw home in the last ALCS game was the highlight of the series for me.

Despite all the complaints from various quarters, this year's World Series got great ratings for Fox, including an average of 25 million viewers for last night's game 7. That's the the second-highest for a World Series game in the last 13 years, behind only last year's game 7.

As a native Houstonian I have been waiting 55 years for this championship.
I went to the first Colt 45's game with my grandpa in 1962.
I was 14 yrs old then and now I'm 69

What do I remember about that first game well Roman metías 2 home runs for the Colts and watching a tall future homer ss for the cubs standing at the plate with the bat high which of course was Ernie Banks.

I' glad for the team, fans and city of Houston,
I'm just glad it happened in my lifetime

Jerry

Congratulations. I had the exact same feeling last year with the Cubs.

And so did my father in 2005 with the White Sox (he died in 2008).
