Hobby history: The first T205, T202, T207, T201, and T204 checklists, 1940-41

Last week I posted about the first printed T206 checklist, which Jefferson Burdick printed in four parts in Card Collector's Bulletin in 1941. Now I'm going to post the other checklists of tobacco baseball card sets that appeared in CCB in the early 1940s, all of them, I'm pretty sure, printed for the first time. This post will include the checklists that were printed in 1940 and 1941, and the later ones will be in another post later this week.

The first four pages below, from the February 1, 1940 Card Collector's Bulletin (#4), are Burdick's checklists for the sets we know as T205 and T202, but which were then #520 and #517. In the T205 checklist he put an "x" by the players who also appear as end panels in T202, and then for the T202 checklist he only lists the end panels that have a change of team from T205, plus the 76 different center panels. The T205 list contains the same 208 subjects that are known today, but without all the back printing variations (e.g. Hoblitzell).

Next is the T207 checklist from the April 1, 1940 CCB (#5); T201 from the August 1, 1940 issue (#7); and T204 from the October 1, 1941 issue (#14). The T207 list includes 201 subjects, again with no printing variations, and I'm not sure where that diverges from the list of 200 subjects recognized today. The T204 list only includes 82 subjects, way below the 121 known today. Interestingly, while the T204 list mentions Ramly, T.T.T., and blank backs, plus the rectangular frame variants, the T205 and T207 lists make no mention of different back brands.
