Default Uncataloged 1920's Cuban postcard of Tris Speaker

Posted By: Ryan Christoff

I recently picked up this Cuban postcard of Tris Speaker and I need help dating it. A symbol in the upper left corner of the back says "Chocolate LA IMPERIAL" which is "The Imperial Chocolate" in English.

It is smaller than normal postcards from the era, which measure about 3.5" by 5.25". This one measures about 3.25" by 5".

My question is, has anyone seen this image of Speaker before and if so, what year is it from?

If no one has seen the image before, I would appreciate educated guesses by members of this board on what year it might have been produced based on how Speaker looks. I'm sure it was issued in the 1920's, but I'd like to get a more accurate date if possible.

Speaker played for Cleveland from 1916 to 1926.

I've been away on vacation or I would have responded sooner to your posting. The card you have was auctioned several months ago on ebay by Scott Gaynor. I bid on it but lost. However, I did win his the Ruth/Hornsby card from the same set. I don't know anything about the history of either card or the origins of the photos. The Ruth/Hornsby photo also appears on an 8x10 Cuban tobacco premium. It may be that there is a similar premium version of the Speaker.

Paul,

Thanks for the info. Do you remember what it sold for on ebay?

I had heard that there was also a Ruth/Hornsby that was similar to the Trinidad Y Hno larger premiums. What did that postcard sell for? Do you know of any others in the set?

Thanks,

-Ryan
