I appreciate Leon letting me post here, and sorry to bug you guys, but we have had a ton of items clossing for $5.00 or less! I am hoping that people start bidding a bit more actively. As long as it's not a card you donated, you can bid until your hearts delight!

Just thought that because ebay uses the next highest bid theory...you might want to throw in a few 'BUY IT NOWs" with an acceptable amount?? There are people out there that give to the righteous...imagine if they got a cool card as a momento(and didn't have to wait to see if they won or not!). Just a thought...Thank you for ALL your efforts, Denny

Thanks for your kind words Denny! I thought about that when we were planning the event. The trouble is, the cards are actually donated by someone. If we set the BIN at $20.00, they might be upset that the card could have gotten more. Thus the size of their donation isn't as large as it "should" be! A good idea though, i just don't think it would work.

To add, people have been asking us about why shipping is so expensive. To clarify just FYI, since we are not making any money on these transactions we cannot afford to eat the cost of bubble wrap and tape and such. We have set a handling fee of 3.99 on all transactions. I hope you guys understand that this is not "profit". If there is a balance , generally it has been for less than 50 cents. Any funds that come into the C4HR account are being turned over to the ARC the second week of january. Hope this helps clear up any confusion. Any board member who wins a card is welcome to contact me personally and I'll work with you guys to reduce the shipping charges. Thanks so much!

Black Sox Fan

Ted, bidding I realized that, even not counting the time and effort, running these auctions costs money. There's the insertion fee per lot (85 cents per lot for 100-200 lots is not chicken feed), plus eBay charges you a percentage of the winning bids. The charge for the Moe Berg and the PSA10 Aaron was no small amount, I'm sure. Charity is one thing, but the idea is not for Ted to go broke running the auctions.

Thank you for your kind words David. I wrote this in response to a person who was giving me a hard time about the shipping costs.

Though, my outsider's opinion is that some of the cards could be offered as group lots.

I would agree David, unfortunately, a lot of the cards came from different people and with the work load and teaching my assistant the ropes, it was easier just to have things up individually. Certainly lots would have also worked for several of the items.

Thinking about your auction, it made me realize that big established charities have to have donations beforehand in order to even have a charity auction. A reflective eBay bidder should realize that if 100 percent of the winning bid goes to the designated charity, the money for the eBay, PayPal and other costs has to come from somewhere else.

Trying to get cutthroat shippings cost from an eBay dealer is one thing, trying to get it from a volunteer charity is another (if someone makes 25 cents per hour of work, that's essentially volunteering). Makes you wonder why they were bidding in a charity auction in the first place.
