Default Dick 'Turk' Farrell

Anyone familiar with Dick Farrell's auto? There are two distinct versions that I routinely see certified. To me, they just don't look like they were signed by the same person.

Farrell was killed in an auto accident in England in 1977 when he was 43.

Here are the two versions:

There are more variants than even these. I too have been studying this for some time. Authenticators have been saying they're all real since the beginning of that profession.

Farrell was more interested in guzzling beer with Jim Owens and George Brunet than in honoring TTM autograph requests, not to mention the time spent in England. Those other two players weren't particularly obliging signers, either. One of the women in Owens' life used to sign his TTMs for a spell. I've seen some of these authenticated, too. Stay away from anything signed "Jim (Bear) Owens". They date to after his playing days.

For those that may not be aware of the story of Richard Dotson (Major League pitcher from 1970’s and 1980’s) as it relates to Dick Farrell mentioned above…it is one of the craziest stories I remember hearing when it first came to light a few years back.

Here is a news article that relates the story…

Just incredibly interesting. I feel bad for Richard not getting the chance to get to know him.

Interesting read about Dotson.

I needed Farrell for my Dodger collection. I'd have to dig it up, but I feel like mine looks like the one on the left. I was hoping to win a nice 8x10 of him shown with the Dodgers some time back, but was blown away after losing it despite what I felt was an absurdly high bid amount.

Default Dick Farrell

Here are two received a couple of years apart in person. With so many versions to compare it's tough.

That is wild about Dick Farrell and Richard Dotson, I don’t think it was a coincidence that Dotson’s mother named him Richard.

Those cards above feature the nicest Farrell autographs I've ever encountered. I don't recall ever seeing him add a paraph like that, so am especially happy you shared them.

Thank you very much. In light of today's players scribbles it's nice to look back at what an autograph was meant to be. Good luck, Pete Flentke

Saw this on eBay, the ink signature matches closely with the preprinted sig. also seems to match up pretty well with one of the versions above.
