Default 1915 CJ PSA 6 with paper loss on ebay

Posted By: Damian

Has anyone else noticed the 1915 CJ Bender graded PSA 6 going for over $600 on ebay tonight? How can it be a six with paper loss on the back? Seller is davidbvintage. Sorry I don't know how to post a link. A classic case of someone buying the holder and not the card? Any thoughts?

Damian

I'd call it an overgrade. Without the paper loss the card is definitely better than a "6" (my opinion). I'm wondering if those "know nothing" graders are given the latitude to grade a card higher if the overall appearance of the card is better than the grade assigned (taking into consideration the flaw). If this is the case then someone at PSA needs to inform their graders that little paper pulls are a huge defect.

It sure is a pretty card otherwise.

I'm glad to see that Dave mentioned that in his description and for the first time he did not state "accurate grade" like he does on most..

Damian,

Being an AOL'er just dragged the heart into the box. Or I believe you can cut and paste the url here as well. Or you can pull the scan and 'Insert' it here after you upload the image into a temporary folder and so on and so on.

Nice card but you cannot grade a card an EXMT 6 with paper loss like that.

Great centering, great corners, great colors.

I would agree that maybe the technical grade should be somewhat lower, but the card does have great eye appeal.

I dont think grading this card a PSA 3 its the adequate grade.

is how do you explain to all of us who who have beautiful caramel cards in our collection with a tiny bit of paper loss on the back which have been routinely graded PSA 2 or SGC 30 specifically because of the tiny loss of paper?

That is a darn nice card and would be 1 or 2 grades higher w/o the paperloss. SGC clobbers you for paperloss and writing. PSA maybe only drops a grade or 2 for this. I know some marks and writing get close to a full grade with a "MK" qualifier. I actually like PSA's approach on this better. If the card is GEM with a pen mark, grade it 1 grade lower and state "MK". Instead of putting a no crease, sharp corner, well centered card in a 1 holder. I have had to pop a few SGC cards and sell them raw due to this. Just my opinion. Dan.
