Default Broad Leaf 460....the stuff that T206er's dream of

Posted By: Ted Zanidakis

Earlier this year we ran a Survey on the BL 350 backs and since then more have been confirmed. So. I'm reprising the list of these,
including the newly found cards.

Furthermore, I would like to see more inputs on the BL 460 backs. The BL 350 and BL 460 backs are mutually exclusive; so, we will
generate a new list of Subjects with the BL 460 backs. However, thanks to Art Martineau's recent discovery, there is an exception
to this rule. The Six Super Prints, as defined by Scot Reader, are possible with both Broad Leaf backs (350 and 460).

Hello Ted,
Regarding your list of the T206 cards known with Broad Leaf 460 backs I have these additions/questions:

Possible but not seen?
Cobb, bat off - Never seen an example of this one.
Schaefer, Washington - Never seen an example of this one.

Confirmed, add:
Seymour, throwing - see scan below.

Also, here is the only T206 that I have confirmed with both Broad Leaf 350 and 460 backs (Evers, batting, yellow sky):

Thanks for your inputs......and, especially the Evers cards......this is quite a remarkable discovery.

The Cobb and Schaefer inputs are from data points on Bill's Super Set that Brian Weisner provided.

The Schaefer really surprised me in that this Subject is in the 460-only series....and, it was my understanding that BL 460's
were NOT printed on any Subjects in this series (except Kleinow and possibly F. Smith).

Do you agree with this observation ?

Thank you JIM R and MIKE (who emailed me) with your new inputs.

I will add my Chase (blue) to the mix, as a possible 2nd Super-Print that can be found with both Broad Leaf backs.

Hey guys and gals, does anyone out there in Net54-land have this Chase with a Broad Leaf 460 back ?

I have only 6 Broad Leaf 350's and one is Jessie Tannehill (Washington), who I forgot to add to the list. He brings the total to 149.

We know there are more Broad Leaf 350's and 460's out there....show and tell us of your's ?

This is the stuff you T206 collectors dream of.

good morning gentlemen...

not to "out" an auction, but there is a Kleinow, Boston BL 460 SGC 30, on eBay (BIN $5K)...overpriced, IMO.

I'm sure there is another Blue Chase with a Broad Leaf 350 out there; amd, as anything and everything eventually appears on ebay....
one will show up for you.
In any event, you have to set your sights on the bigger "prize"....this card printed on a Broad Leaf 460 back.

Happy hunting, Jeff.

Here's what you could call a "double-toughie", a Kleinow (Boston) with a Broad Leaf 460 back for sale on ebay.

I missed your post......I took the "lazy" pass, by clicking on the "Bottom of page" link.

Anyhow, Brian W. said this Subject exists with a Broad Leaf 460 back....and, here it is.

Too expensive for my liking......anyway, I hope the "usual suspects" don't get on my case for providing a link to it on ebay.
It is listed as a BIN, so I guess that's not considered an "OUTING" ? ?

Four months ago there was an ungraded Doolan (batting) with a Broad Leaf 460 back on ebay. This lot was withdrawn by the seller,
who said he would resubmit it upon getting it graded.....was this card, subsequently, for sale ?

This Doolan is a 350/460 Subject, and is possible with a BL 460 back.

The BROAD LEAF 460's are found in the 350/460 Series (55 cards)......plus the Six Super Prints (Chance-yel, Chase-blue,
Chase-dk cap, Cobb, Evers, Mathewson)......plus these 2 in the 460-only Series: Kleinow (Boston) and Smith (Chi & Bos)
for a total of 63 possible candidates.
Of the remaining 46 Subjects in the 460-only Series, none have yet been confirmed; and perhaps, this series of 46 cards
were not printed with the Broad Leaf 460 back. I hope we can resolve this uncertainty.

BROAD LEAF 460........29 confirmed......46% of the possible 63 candidates

Baker
M. Brown (Chicago)
Burch (fldg)
Cobb (red)............................super-print
Cobb (bat off)
Davis (A's)
Dougherty (arms in air)
Downey (bat)
Elberfeld (Washington-fldg)
Evers (Chi-bat)......................super-print
Griffith (bat)
Johnson (pitch)
Joss (pitch)
Kleinow (Boston)
Konetchy (glove low)
Mathewson (dark cap).............super-print
McIntyre (Brooklyn & Chi)
Mullin (bat)
Murphy (bat)
O'Leary (hds/knees)
Reulbach (glove)
Rucker (throw)
Seymour (throwing)
Snodgrass (fldg)
Stahl (glove)
Street (catching)
Sweeney (New York)
Willis (throw)
CYoung (glove)

These are very, very tough.....but, I'm sure there are more to be reported.....so, you posters and readers in Net54-land,
show and/or tell us of yours ?

Clarification on the Kleinow (Boston) and F. Smith (Chi & Boston) cards........

Although these two T206 Subjects do not have any 350 backs, they really belong to the 350/460
series. And, have the characteristic 460 backs associated with the 350/460 series (for instance
they are not found with Sweet Caporal 460 Factory 30).

Red Kleinow has indeed been confirmed with a Broad Leaf 460 back.

Frank Smith has not....and, if my observation is correct regarding the mutual exclusivity between
American Beauty 460 cards and Broad Leaf 460 cards......then, I do not expect to find this Smith
variation with a BL 460 back.

I leave it up to anyone to prove me wrong on this ?

TRex,
I just saw your post to me at the end of December.
I, as you mentioned in reference to yourself, take the lazy man's way
too often and push the 'bottom of page'as well.
Sorry.

I do hope to see all the minor leaguers with 350 Broadleaf before you turn 70 and I turn 60!!

best,
barry

I don't know about all the 86 Minor Leaguers being found with BL 350 backs. I discovered in my Sovereign set
that only 60 of the Minor Lgers. were printed with Sovereign 350 backs.

This Monster is unpredictable.

Best Regards, Barry

That's a really tough card. Perhaps, I should start another Survey just on the scarcity of Piedmont 460 Factory 42 cards.
