Default Card Collectors Bulletin No.1, Jan. 1, 1937

Previously there were Card Collectors Bulletins listed on the board. After that there were some Hobbies Magazine articles written by JR Burdick. Those articles are now in our permanent archive in the archive section of this board for all to be viewed. Those were the predecessor to the Card Collectors Bulletins. As I was working on some things with George Vrecheck (Hi George) he was nice enough to share the first Bulletins. So without further ado here is the very first Card Collectors Bulletin from the Grandfather of American Card Collecting and the American Card Catalog, JR Burdick. Eventually, most if not all, of the first 20 or so will be posted. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do....

Yikes...they were complaining that fifty cents to a dollar was too much to spend on a card! Now this is a really early look at a barely organized hobby.

Default Fantastic

This is so cool. I am particularly thrilled by the reference to John D. Wagner in the article. He was not only one of the first collector of baseball cards, but he also was one of the early seekers of through-the-mail autographs. I've shown this many times before, but below is his correspondence with Fred Snodgrass. It appears Mr. Wagner moved between 1937 and 1960 -- but he stayed in Harrisburg and his collecting interests still included baseball cards.
