Default FACTORY 42 (OVERPRINT)

Posted By: Merrill Pearlman

At a card show this morning, I bought a T206 Sweet Caporal Wiltse with a 350-460 factory 42, 4th Dist.(overprint). This is the first back I've ever seen like this. How tuff is this back to find?

It's pretty tough, but they do show up with some frequency. Not as tough as Drum or Uzit, though.

On a scale of 1-40 with 1 being the toughest, about 29.

More rare is the Factory 42 overprint where the bar was printed slightly off, thus revealing the original Factory assignment. I picked up this Evers in Seth's auction. The only other one I've seen like this is a Larry Doyle with Bat.

Best Regards,
Craig

I was just cataloging my T206 backs when this thread started. Now if only I could learn to work Photobucket ...

Happens to be the first T206 I ever got, Walter Johnson ready to pitch. Set me back twelve bucks, which was a pretty good chunk of my budget at 12 years old.

Craig,

I have had this in my collection for quite some time...just always thought it was a bad example of a Fac 42 overprint. Is there actually a premium attached because both factories are showing?

John,

Yours is the Doyle I was referring to.

There seems to be a premium. I had seen the Evers on ebay and it went for more than if it was a typical overprint. I remember asking Ted Z about it and he said he'd never seen one with the bar not covering up the original factory. And when Evers reappeared in Seth's auction, I paid more than if it was a typical overprint. I suppose it's the same sort of premium category that ghost images or missing colors might bring.

Regards,
Craig

Here's Mickey Doolan showing the same property. (My other Doolan batting is a Drum. Coincidence?)

I sold a Jennings (both hands showing) with a misaligned overprint showing both factories earlier this year - perhaps a board member picked it up?

Does PSA or SGC note the OVERPRINT on their slips???  I don't see it noted on the Johnny Evers card above..
