Default Pinkerton Postcards

Posted By: Mike Peich

I had some interesting responses from the Max Stein/Pinkerton thread, and want to dedicate a thread to Pinkertons. As I mentioned earlier, I am compiling a checklist of Pinkertons and would like to hear from everyone who has one in his/her collection. To date Jeff Mohler, Adam Warshaw, Frank Ward, Steve Murray, John Spano, and that old desperado, Leon, have been most helpful. I am beginning to see some interesting trends.

I would like to hear from everyone who has Pinkertons in his/her collection. I need the following information:
-player name as it actually appears on the card
-team affiliation
-card number
-back description: blank, scorecard, or postcard
-postmark date if it was used as a postcard.

I have a database started, and I need to add to it, as well as start a population report. As soon as I have more information, I'll pass it along to the Board. Feel free to contact me: mpeich@comcast.net.

Many thanks for your help, and I hope to see some of you at Reading this week-end.

Cheers, Mike

Mike, is this limited to the Pinkerton postcards and blank backs or are you likewise including T5 Pinkerton Cabinets?

Lajoie - Blank back (no longer mine unfortunately)....
interesting to note that Lajoie was not in the 2006 SCD Guide and was Pop 1 of 1 for SGC when I had it... so it must be a fairly new confirmed example.

Cobb - Blank back (plug: this is on the b/s/t... hope its okay to say that )

Steve--I'm interested in the postcards, not the T5 cabinets, although I'd love to have a cabinet for my type collection.

Thanks, Joe, for the reminder on the Lajoie. He has been added to the database.

Keep the data coming in, folks.
Cheers, Mike

Mike,

Picked up another small group of these today. All have blank backs:

203 King Cole P, New York, AL
424 Mike Mitchell OF, Washington, AL
503 Dooin C, hiladelphia, NL
511 Eddie Collins 2ND Base, Phila. Athletics, AL
501 Charles Bender P, Philadelphia Athletics, AL
855 Clarke (MGR) Fred Pittsburg, N.L.

According to what is catalogued in the 2007 SCD, the Dooin is not listed and neither is the Konetchy that I picked up last week. Would love to see your compiled list when it is available.

What are the interesting trends you are beginning to see?

Jeff

Is that Dooin numbered 503 or 303?

Jeff--Many thanks for the list of your recent acquisitions, although I wish I could have bid on them.
One of the interesting discoveries is that the cards probably were issued over a number of years, e.g., Tinker as mgr of the Reds (1913), and then a member of the Chicago Federal League team (1914). That said, how many more examples can we find that support the theory of on-going publication?
In the meantime, please (all of you) keep sending me lists of your Pinkerton postcards.
Cheers, Mike
