I like PSA as much as anyone but...just when you think everything is safe, up comes another post that can freak you out. Not only can cards be doctored, so can slabs.

A previous thread discussed removing scratches from slabs, this should be a relief for those concerned. Not only can scratches be removed but here is an example of a PSA slab that has been cracked and the frosting removed from the edge...then put back together.



Although I’m not sure if this is more alarming then being able to remove any or all printing from a flip, while everything else remains in tact. IMO a blank flip should be concerning, even more so when combined with an altered slab. As always...these are real and not digitally made.





Sorry to show you more to worry about but it will give you another area to inspect before making a purchase.

That's why it's best to run the serial number through a search at the website. Unless the crooks slab the same card in a lower grade

It's my understanding that WIWAG was using the same flip and just inserting lower grade cards into new slabs.

These PSA flips were once legit but can be made to be virgin and the slabs are doctored to look close enough to unused.

Serial numbers would need to be borrowed from a card not on the registry. Because of the volume, if ever caught, it could be considered a mechanical error and a new cert given.

Removing the frost from a cracked slab is somewhat arduous....but the results are interesting.

Very interesting! I sincerely hope that SGC flips are free from any potential buggery though your comment that these will appear shortly should give one and all concern.

Unfortunately SGC flips are just as prone to being altered the "same way" as the PSA flips shown above.

This should be a concern equally as important as altered cards...if not more! Imagine the possibilities, it's scary.

Who's to say someone out there doesn't have the exact mold and a machine to slab cards. Buy a 7, crack it out replace it with a respectable 6. We know the rest. It can happen and probably is happening. I've seen many graded slabs that have been questionable that I passed on.
